Is it possible to have a server on a Cox home account? Since there is not a static IP is this possible?

You can be assigned an IP address via DHCP, but are you going to be using this server for a lot of traffic? If so, Cox (just like all ISPs) watch your bandwith usage. If you go over a certain threshold they will either disconnect you, charge you a fee for every megabyte you use over a certain amount, or they will call and ask you what you are doing.

If you're hosting a webpage, then yeah you'd get caught pretty quick, but if you are just hosting small applications, you should be fine for now. You should switch to a business account in the long term. i think their basic package is $150.00 a month

I have Godaddy hosting my website and I checked into a business account it is $139 just to get what I have with the home account plus I loose my home email addresses. I will be having some applications like OWA, SharePoint Portal, plus CRM that have web components. I tried connecting the server and I am getting a DHCP error so I think I could be doing something wrong.

You can use Dynamic DNS. Addresses mostly stay the same.
Dynamic DNS can update the record if the IP changes.

You usually have to run on strange ports because they block the standard ones.

You can probably get a Cox business internet connection to your house. You just have to go to the right department and they charge you (alot) more than the home rate.

I use speakeasy.net for DSL since they give static addresses, don't care if you run servers at home, and do not block any ports. The cost is a little higher, but worth it.
