Russ Ortiz - S - ATL

According to the Arizona Republic's Bob McManaman, the Diamondbacks are on the verge of signing Russ Ortiz.
The Diamondbacks likely will overpay, but they can't possibly give Ortiz the $10 million per year he wants. He should be another pitcher making around $21 million-$24 million over

Not too bad, but I hope he and Webb can cut their walks down. They were #1 and #2 in the NL with walks...

4 years at $34 million for Ortiz. You can blame the idiots in charge of the Nationals and Mets for this ridiclous market for the absurd contracts they gave to Kris Benson, Vinnie Castilla, and Cristian Guzman.

In one day the Diamondbacks went from a last place team to a competitive one. If RJ stays I like the starting four with RJ, Ortiz, Webb and Gosling.

I think Moorad realized they can't field a triple A team and expect the fans to support it. I believe the Diamondbacks are not done dealing. I actually has a glimmer of hope next year. With how weak the NL West was last year and the mix of veterans and young talented guys on this team, I think they could surprise.

Ortiz is an innings eater so he should be a good #3 starter. But we havent signed him yet.... And I still think that we need another starter.

I would like to see the Dbacks also go after another starter along with Ortiz, that way we only have to use one of Fossum/Gosling/Gonzalez as the 5th starter.

Competitive? We're still far from being done. Notice the holes in two OF spots and SS. It should be a fun weekend to watch in Anaheim, I just hope we have some more money left or a monster RJ deal in the works.

I still think when all is said and done the Padres will win the NL West.

What about Terrero? And Tracy might be moved to right if Shea isnt traded. However, he doesnt have the bat to play that position. And we still have prospects with big bats that play the outfield.
