JetHawks Drop Third Straight, Lose 18-2 To Inland Empire

(Lancaster, CA) – Russ Ortiz started for the JetHawks in a rehab start from the
Arizona Diamondbacks, and allowed 11 runs on 12 hits over 2.1 innings of work.
The JetHawks could not overcome the early deficit as the Inland Empire 66ers won
the game 18-2 on Wednesday night at Clear Channel Stadium at Lancaster, CA.

Jeff Cook had three hits, including his 14th home run of the year.

Jay Garthwaite chipped in with two hits for Lancaster, and also pitched the
final two innings of the game.

Michael Garciaparra led the 27-hit attack for Inland Empire with five hits and
six RBI, both career highs.

For the third night in a row the 66ers hit five home runs in the game against
the JetHawks, and have outscored the JetHawks 44-10 in the first three games
of the series.

On Friday, Diamondbacks catcher Kelly Stinnett will join the JetHawks roster for
a rehabilitation assignment that is scheduled to last three or four days.

If Michael Garciaparra can do good against Russ Ortiz, anyone can.

Release this bum. Or try trading him for ANYONE.

MIAMI - The Arizona Diamondbacks activated catcher Kelly Stinnett from the disabled list on Tuesday, apparently in anticipation of right-hander Russ Ortiz's return to the rotation.

Arizona optioned left-hander Michael Gosling to Triple-A Tucson of the Pacific Coast League to make room for Stinnett, who'd been out since July 18 with a wrist injury. Since Gosling was Saturday's projected starter in Atlanta, Ortiz will likely slide into that spot.

Ortiz hasn't pitched for Arizona since June 15 because of a stress fracture in his right rib cage. Before this DL stint, Ortiz - 4-6 with a 5.88 ERA in 14 starts for the Diamondbacks - never missed a major league starting assignment. advertisement

Arizona signed him as a free agent last December.

In three minor league rehab starts, Ortiz went 0-2 with a staggering ERA of 19.06. He gave up 11 runs in 2 1-3 innings for the Diamondbacks' Single-A affiliate in Lancaster, Calif. last week, and allowed seven hits, six earned runs and three home runs in six innings Monday for Triple-A Tucson.

"The most important thing is that I'm able to throw all my pitches for strikes," Ortiz said after joining Arizona in the visitors' clubhouse Tuesday. Ortiz said he wasn't dismayed by the rehab outings, saying his main objective was to simply command his pitches.
"I thought all along I'd feel more confident up here than down there," Ortiz said.

WHAT?! WHAT!? Are you nuts? Those are single-A and Triple A batters!

Gosling was 0-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 13 appearances - the last five of them starts, in which he was 0-1 with a 3.33 ERA.

:bang:

Explain to me again the idea of trying to win the division. I must be missing something obvious in the strategy.

Delusion: A persistent, fixed irrational belief which cannot be changed by logic or evidence.
