We need to start going around eveywhere blasting these guys that we want. Try to convince everyone that they suck. I am headed to a Cleveland board right now to talk about Kalil's "bad attitude and horrible knees". hahahaha

Thanks Mitch....validation of one's opinions - particularly for a woman discussing football - is flattering from an informed and intelligent member of this MB. The scenario you present above would be too good to be true...but who knows, we had a few surprises on draft day last year, maybe we will be just as fortunate this year.

My apologies 1usctrojan...I should have said, great post, woman!

lol...no apologies needed, I just know that I'm going to blow it eventually with some sissy-girly phrase that is going to make you guys wonder....but make no mistake, I love football!

I've noticed that several of our fellow Cardinals fans are from different parts of the country.....these fans are a valuable resource this time of year; I'm sure many of you, like myself, follow our college football teams closely and can give us great input about the players coming out in the draft. I personally attend all home games and some away games.....also, practices are open to all at USC - so I've watched Ryan play every game in college....IMO the kid is a stud, and I want him on my NFL team! Go Cardinals! Linda

in fact, I would be tempted to trade the #5 to the Pats for their 2 1st rounders

Though I cannot seem to figure out why New England would make this trade, I like the idea a lot.

Just to clear it up, their two pick i round one would not be enough. Our pick has a total value of 1700 points.
Their two in the first round has a total value of 1400. Including their pick in the second round would make the total value of the tre picks 1740.

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/features/valuechart.html

Throwing in a third pick from them would make a total value of 1550 points, which probably would be more realistic.

I was impressed by both Kalil's and Satele's ability to bend their knees, sink their hips and stay low in the mirror drills. The centers I saw after those two didn't look nearly as effective.

I have to say that I am also on board with Kalil. From the combine drills and what I have seen from him in games he seems to play with great balance. One thing that many offensive linemen struggle with is the ability to stay in a squat power position which is important because if they don't they can be driven back or just pushed by. When Kalil drop steps he stays in this squat position which enables him to stay balanced and keeps him able to deliver a strong hand punch. He also takes quick steps and this also increases his overall balance. These traits are huge for a center and if his only flaw is a lack of leg strength that is a very easy thing for young men to increase. Also have to love the fact that he comes from a football family which leads to a high level of football knowledge.

If he is there in the second, we need to take him. I don't know if he will be but there is definitely a chance.

Although I like Lecky a lot.

I watched Kalil today. Dude looks like a stud. I would not cry if we drafted him.

I would not either! You get a different perspective on these guys when you see them up close.

He's a good argument for drafting good character guys.
What are talking about? Stop. Please.

VERY self-confident/cocky and made a dumb decision involving a motorcycle? Yes, but he's a good character guy. He's had no off-the-field problems sans the chopper incident.

A good character guy is so overrated by fans nowadays that if you show one iota of confidence you're considered a thug.

Every mock draft I have seen thus far says otherwise.

All of those were done before he worked out today. His stock went up today due to his performance at the combine.

Also mock drafts are fun but are highly inaccurate especially this early

Could you imagine getting Thomas with our 1st round selection and Kalil in the 2nd round. Our OL would b et for years o come. Would also give us OL depth.

Did Kalil combine himself into the first round?

I think he already was a first rounder but he was even more impressive yesterday than i expected. He is 14 pounds heavier than at the senior bowl and really looks well. Impressive 40 yard dash and very good in the position drills too.

Oh, and by the way he had 34 in bench press which is also pretty nice.

This guy has what it takes to be a pro bowler.

Mouthy players will never be considered high character if they call out their coaches like Winslow gave the impression of. Taunting injured players. I have no problem with confident players. Hell, I wouldn't have bitched if he was our pick. All I said was that he was a good argument, not that I wouldn't have liked to pick him.

Winslow? He's just a soldier. A warrior. Ask him. He'll tell you again. Another ignorant arrogant thug from the U. His career is now over and since he didn't graduate, he'd better have invested his signing bonus wisely because he not even hireable as a playground supervisor (that's a common career choice of many U players.)

Kellen has, however, shown Valet Parking aptitude.

Chat wrap from espn.com (not Insider);

BUZZMASTER
Ryan will be here soon! Keep sending in those questions!

Max (Cali)
If you were drafted to a team that has a more agile QB, a guy who is willing to run, instead of a pure drop back passer, would that take a while getting adjusted to, as far as your pass blocking?

RYAN KALIL
I don't think so. You know usually you get a feel for a guy in practice, so you get used to that in practice. So I don't think it is something that is hard to get used to.

Adam (Duluth, MN)
Do you think that center is the most underrated position on the O-line, I played center in college ball and people didn't appreciate it as much as they should've I thought, what's your take?

RYAN KALIL
I think offensive linemen in general are just underappreciated. But it is part of the game. You may not get the recognition all the time, but when you win football games, and when runningbacks score that is a tribute to you and your guys...so it is just a situation we will always be in.

Otto (CA)
Hello Ryan. If for some crazy reason you drop to the second round, how much would you like snapping to Leinart and playing alongside Deuce again?

RYAN KALIL
Oh that would be such a cool thing. I think it would make it an easier transition for me. It would be a lot of fun, and Deuce makes the games so much fun and great to play.

Devin (Tucson, AZ)
Are you more worried about the power/run-stopping DT's or the speed/pass-rushing DT's at the NFL level?

RYAN KALIL
I think the smaller shiftier guys are a lot harder to be consistent against, because bigger guys are tougher to block against at first, but they may wear down, and that is just speaking from the college level. But I just think quicker guys are always tougher.

Adam: Gobles, MI
Ever thought about playing guard?

RYAN KALIL
Yeah I thought about it, especially now that my college career is over. The NFL is looking for guys who can play a lot of positions on the O line. So I play guard at the Senior Bowl and I thought I did well. It is very important to be versatile in this league, and it is something I am comfortable doing.

Tom
Is there any defensice player you are really looking forward to facing, in order to test how good you are?

RYAN KALIL
Well the NFL for a lot of us has been a dream for a long time, and there are a lot of guys you remember watching on TV, I mean guys like Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, and Urlacher and a lot of other guys, guys I played with like Sean Cody...so those are the palyers I am looking forward to facing, and I think it is very exciting

Clay
Do you think you can start as a rookie?

RYAN KALIL
I think I can start as a rookie, without a doubt. I am quick to learn schemes and I adjust well. It is something that I have sort of pushed when meeting with people, the idea that I can step in right away.

Phil ( L.A.)
Great Career at SC Ryan, you were the anchor for some great RBs. WHo was your favorite to block for?

RYAN KALIL
I mean they all have something different. Being an O-linemen you always love short yardage and goal line, and Lendel White always had a great attitude in those situations. But Reggie was great too, to try and run down field and stay with him during one of his ESPN highlight runs. So it was a lot of fun to block for both those guys.

Dan (PA)
What teams would you most like to play for and play aganst?

RYAN KALIL
To me it doesn't really matter, just the honor of playing in the league is what I look forward to. Obviously it wouldbe cool to stay close to home, but I would not mind going far away either.

Jon (PHI)
do you prefer to block against a 3-4 of a 4-3?

RYAN KALIL
It doesn;t matter. Obviously a 4-3 is something I am more used to. I only saw 3-4 against my own team and Stanford. The thing about the 3-4 is if you have to have a very good NT. But it doesn't really matter to me.

Chris (Laurel, De)
Ryan, How do you think you stand after your awesome day at the combine and what round do you think you will hear your name called on draft day?

RYAN KALIL
I think it just depends on what teams are looking for. Whichever team needs an interior guy on the line, I will be one of the top guys for that. And I have had the previlege to play in a pro style offense so that should help me. I think it would be really cool to be drafted in the first round, especially because that doesn;t always happen with centers. But I think I am a day one guy who can help a team right away.

RYAN KALIL
Thank you to all the fans for your support, and all the coaches and my father for helping me through this process. Godbless to all of you! I look forward to the draft, and Fight On!

True, but Kalil has a huge advantage, being by far the best center in the draft.

Being in the bottom of one round and the top of another is often decided by small things, but if the guys at the same position you play are projected to the fifth round and you are projected to the second round, your risks at sliding from one round to the next really is not that big.

Pro football weekly has Samson Satele going late second. Scouts are comparing him to Jesse Sapolu(spelling?) the old 49er lineman

i guess i wouldn't hate taking Kalil in round 2 but i think there are more impact players that will be available. Spencer from Purdue, one of the top LB's that drop, Joe Staley, Michael Griffin,Brandon Merriweather, Reggie Nelson (Mayock said some scouts have him as a 2nd round pick) would all be better choices for the Cards, imo. It's hard to expect a rookie center to come in and have an impact. There's just too much going on. I know Mangold played well last year but you have to remember where he went to college :D .

The War Room says that you shouldn't be fooled by Salete's workouts. He has always had all the talent in the world, but he's been terrible inconsistent over his college career.

They are, however, very high on Beekman from Boston College.
