I really like Brandon Meriweather. I was just curious as to your guy's thoughts on him. Where do you think he will go in the draft, and does anybody else see a stud in the making like I do?

A sure pro prospect. He could go in the first round and might be there in the second round. Depending on what we do in the first round, he might be a second round possibility for us. DB's are deep in this years draft and it is an area of need for us.

He's a first round talent but, with Goodell and the NFL trying to make character issues be held more accountable,i could see him dropping into round 2. I don't think the Cards will look at him at all.

With more and more teams wanting at least one safety who can match up and cover, Merriwether will go in the late first IMHO

If we look for safety in round 2, i think it will be Michael Griffin from Texas.

I rate him the #1 safety on my board, character issues notwithstanding.

What I like about him on tape was the way he was always right in the receiver's face to break up passes. That and his speed and explosion and tackling proficiency. And his versatility. He can play CB as well as FS, which makes him a valuable member of the secondary because he represents an answer to all kinds of things that come along - like injuries, matchup problems etc.

At issue, of course, will be whether his part in the on the field free for all represents a chronic character flaw or whether he's bright enough and flexible enough to learn from his mistakes and become a solid citizen. We're not privy to the interview process, so it's hard to tell. But if he were to pass the Cardinals' vetting process, I'd love to have him in our deep secondary.

Off the top of my head, I can't remember the last time a former UM player had an off the field problem while in the NFL. Ray Lewis a few years back but that's it. In general they tend to be cocky but don't present team problems.

A month ago I thought we may have a chance to take Meriweather in the 2nd round, since then I think he's elevated his status to somewhere in the 15 to 25 area of the first round.
Pretty much.

I really like Meriweather after watching him during his tenure at UM. He definitely has the goods.

Isn't he a SS though?

I'm pretty sure he's a FS.But he may have climbed into the 1st round also. I find it hard to believe that 4 FS's will go in round 1 though.Landry and Nelson are locks to go in round 1. Merriweather,Griffin could join them. After those 4 there is a pretty good drop off in talent.

This guy Tanard Jackson from Syracuse eerily reminds me of Rolle. He was a cb in college, but I think he would make a very good FS. I think he is about 6'2 215. Good hitter and playmaker who lacks ideal speed. Whatdoya think?
