The player just about everyone across the NFL world roots for has re-signed with the Buffalo Bills.

It was announced that safety Damar Hamlin was re-signed by the Bills, agreeing to a one-year, $2 million deal.

The Bills organization retains a player who is familiar with the defense, has starting experience, and is loved by the fans. But, according to Hamlin, he considers himself the big winner, saying he always wanted to come back to the Bills.

“It feels amazing to be back,” Hamlin said at his press conference. “This is home, this is all I know as a pro… I’m connected to this place on a totally different level. This is where I wanna spend my whole career if I can.”

Hamlin will enter his fifth year on the Bills after a productive 2024 season. He has become part of a locker room that was too hard for him to walk away from.

“The most nerve-racking thing was the bond we make with our teammates, to be separated from those… It was messing with me emotionally,” he said. “I’m glad to be back with my brothers and continue to work the way we do.”

Hamlin had interest from a few other teams after a season where he started 14 games and was voted as a third Pro Bowl alternate, but the bond he’s built with his teammates and the chance they have of winning the whole thing was too good to walk away from.

“We had a lot of opportunities and a lot of interest, which was pretty cool,” he said. “There was a lot of interest from a few teams which I was greatly appreciative of, but ultimately coming back here and staying where I’m comfortable and know the system. The biggest reason I’m here is because we have the chance to win.”

While Hamlin returns, it's likely he'll have to lock down a starting position again during training camp. The likes of Darrick Forrest signed during free agency, joining a safety room with Hamlin and Cole Bishop.

General manager Brandon Beane noted during his own free agency press conference: "right now, it's about building competition and depth across the roster before we get to the draft" so plenty could change.

Regardless, the Bills are happy to have Hamlin back in what looks to be a win-win deal for both the team and Hamlin. He provides quality starting experience and leadership in the Bills safety room.

Bills Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2025 offseason.
