If they can keep up their average over the next 9 games they will give up 80 sacks for the season. What is the NFL record. We may have a record setting pace here.

Wasn't one of the past Olines called the '75 club' because that's how many sacks they gave up?

It's amazing the Cards once had a line of Dierdorf, Dobler, Banks, Young, and I think Finnie, that gave up 8 sacks the entire year. And that's when the DL could head slap, or pretty much do whatever they wanted, and the OL had to keep their hands close to their chest.

If I remember right it was the 78 club, it was not only how many sacks allowed but how many yards rushing they averaged per game.

Had to look it up, the 4-12 Cardinals of 1997...our leading rusher was Leeland McElroy with 424 yards at 3.1 yards a pop.

On the bright side, the FO ought to be able to overcome any Whiz objections to dumping Grimm if we manage an nfl record in sacks allowed.

And Hart wasn't exactly mobile but he was very good at making one move to buy enough time to get the ball off.

Something I see a lot watching other teams play is how effective many QB's are at what I call a "duck" move. They literally just bend at the knees and duck for a split second almost like a pump fake in basketball, the DL thinks they're going to take off and run so they freeze, and then they straighten up and throw it. Rodgers, Cutler, there are several guys that are really good at it.

Our guys are ducking too but it's to avoid getting killed.

the number of times this year where BOTH DE's have hit our QB at the same time is alarming.

There was no free agency. So the Cards were able to keep the same guys for years. Just look at the Cardinals history. They were competitive off and on in every decade, 60s 70s 80s until they moved to Arizona and free agency started. With limited revenue and a weak scouting department and a terrible reputation as owners among players there was no way they could keep their top players or attract top free agents which had to be done to win consistently.

Was this the same year McElroy had the 200 yd game against the Saints so half of his yards came in one game.

That was LeShon "One Nut" Johnson. One hit wonder.

Yep, he had 2 huge runs in that game, and if I remember right he did follow it up with a big run against the Rams the next game to set up the game winning FG...other than that he was never heard from again. The guy had great straight line speed but he couldnt break tackles and if you asked him to change directions he fell down.

there's always gonna be a weak area on a team, but for the Cards the oline has been the prob for the last 12 years.
