This team needs to lay some wood on their MAIN COMPETITON. AT HOME!

The team that showed them the exit last post season. (M0st post seasons).

Yes, this is NOT the makeup of this team. But it NEEDS to change.!

Gentry, stop worrying about pushing the ball, it only plays into the Lakers hands as a GREAT transition team themselves.

The Suns need to play PLAYOFF BALL against this Lakers team.

The FOCUS can not be on pace, BUT on STOPS.

BUT it is not. AND They continue to come out on the short end.

Change the CULTURE - Gentry!

This team ALSO NEEDS another thumper inside besides Lopez.

Nash is really cool to watch, but.....it's time to see HOW ELSE this team can play...with elite teams.

Make the Changes!

If this team surrendered pace to the Lakers and focused on stops they'd lose by 60 to these guys. It's like asking a river to be a rock. Style notwithstanding, the Lakers are simply a more talented team. The Suns played better than I would have expected given they were on a back to back facing a superior and well-rested foe.

Never trust a tall midget, you know he's lying about something (Glen Cook?).

You can try to "change the culture" all you want but you need to do it with a different batch of players. Nash plays the best defense he's capable of IMO. Changing the culture won't make him any better. The same is probably true of Frye and Hedo also. Jason can give you offense or he can give you defense but it doesn't appear he can give you both.

Gentry has made defense as much of a focus as is reasonable given his pieces, IMO. Once Nash is gone I think they will try to be a more balanced team. Young players with defensive abilities such as Dragic, Lopez, Dudley and Amundson give us hope for the future. Unfortunately, that's in an alternate universe where we let Frye walk and paid Lou what he wanted.

Absolutely you do.

Absolutely he does.

Of course it won't. Changing the culture includes moving on from the Nash era.
The same is probably true of Frye and Hedo also. Jason can give you offense or he can give you defense but it doesn't appear he can give you both.
Even among good teams that put a perennial premium on getting stops and controlling tempo, rebounding etc...there is usually a place for players like Frye,Barbosa...players that are huge liabilities on one end of the floor(albeit a very small role). This collection of players would also NOT be a part of changing the culture here.

Gentry has made defense as much of a focus as is reasonable given his pieces, IMO.
For sure he has,but if anyone thinks for a minute that this is HIS group of players, hand picked & aquired for Gentry's particular skills as a HC i would say they're not paying attention. Gentry has done the very best with the culture that has existed long before he was even a part of this organization, and i suspect it will continue long after he's gone.

Once Nash is gone I think they will try to be a more balanced team. Young players with defensive abilities such as Dragic, Lopez, Dudley and Amundson give us hope for the future. Unfortunately, that's in an alternate universe where we let Frye walk and paid Lou what he wanted.
One can only hope.

I'll post this again because its so relevant to this franchise...

Lamar Odom keeps getting lucky against the Suns

Issues:
1. Defense
2. Rebounding
3. Channing Frye - atrocious to watch him play basketball, IQ of a twig. I recall losing a lot of games because of his "off nights" last year. If he is afraid of shooting then bench him.
4. Turkoglu - at least he had some moves in this game but he is very slow for the run and gun or he just dogs it too much because he does have some moves (with agility that come out of nowhere).

Overall after 3 games I am still impressed by the Suns and how they do compete against the teams. Dragic/Dudley/Childress will do some damage later this season to opposing teams. I still need to see more but we aren't beating the Lakers with this current team no matter how much they "gel." Gasol and Odom will own us and when Bynum comes back it will be a joke.

Yeah....superior. defending champs, all that.

The Suns need to change their style. Until they do, they will be also- rans...forever.

Phil Jackson know what wins. STOPS.

He came from the Knicks teams of the 70's.

Team D. Defensive REBOUNDING. STOPS. It was the Red Holzman school.
And Jackson took it and ran with it, being the NBA's most successful coach...albeit GREAT talent....but he learned well what wins.

Toughness, D.

Suns need to change, from a finesse, pace team. Some how, some way. It gets them nowhere.
Now even less with no true go to presence.

Change the personnel. Maybe the coach if he can't adapt.

He's from the D'Antoni school. That's a problem.

He needs to MAINLY focus on something other than the pace.

Yeah...that's a start.

You clearly have your opinion but I'm not having a bit of it - pace is not the problem. In fact, Gentry hasn't got them playing at as high a pace as he needs to. Poor D, little rebounding muscle are the problems, and as others have said there's not a whole lot this group of players is going to do about them.

Personally, since Warrick is playing with some hustle I'd change my prescription for the team - play Warrick instead of Hedo and let the latter be the seldom used designated gunner, but keep him off the second unit. He'll drag the level of the defense down too much, especially partnered with Frye in the frontcourt. (Sitting Frye and playing Hedo might work, too, but the guys on the 2nd unit are used to Frye's shortcomings.) Choose 1 from Lawal, Siler and Clark to go with Dragic, Dudley, Childress and say, Frye. Pick the one that will fit in the best on defense - that ought to be Lawal but apparently there's more wrong with him than just being a rookie.

Then all you have to do is get them to have the same defensive esprit they had last year.
