Just need the Dodgers to win tonight! If they do, they lock up the West and the Padres have zero to play for this weekend!
The year was 1993 and the Giants had 103 wins going into the final weekend against the Dodgers who were out of contention. The Giants only needed 1 win to secure a playoff spot as NL West Champs...and they expected the Dodgers to pretty much roll over with nothing to play for. Do you know what happened? The Dodgers spanked and swept the Giants to keep them out of the playoffs by 1 game, as Atlanta had 104 wins to end the season. There was a ton of hostility on the Giants...Even Matt Williams was pissed because he felt the Dodgers shouldn't have played all their star players...he felt the Dodgers shouldn't have wanted Atlanta in the playoffs.

Moral of the story....Don't expect a division foe to roll over because you think they have nothing to play for.

Dodgers up 7-2 heading to the 9th after scoring 5 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th. Looks like they are about to clinch.

Game over. Dodgers clinch. Bring on the Friars.

Never said I expect the Padres to just roll over.
However, I do think our odds for getting to the post season increase with the Dodgers wining the west.

Now it really is put up or shut up time for the DBacks. They likely need at least 2 out of 3 against the Padres to secure a postseason slot. They may need to sweep since the Mets and Braves hold all the tiebreakers against them. Time to pray to the baseball gods on behalf of the DBacks to keep them from going golfing next week.

So Darvish has been much better against lefties as a righty than against righties. Likely why the lineup looks pretty balanced tonight.
