I am not a fan of a vast majority of anime. I actually have only really watched what has been produced by Shinichi Watanabe, and even then it is few and far between.
Point is, one of his series, Samurai Champloo (great story in its own right), really got me into samurai movies, and what not. I did some research, and what really influenced Samurai Champloo.
Ended up learning that a lot of the series was influenced by the 1960's Japanese samurai movies. These movies were very similar to the old "Spaghetti Westerns" around that time in the US.
First movie I have watched:
Sanjuro
All sub-titles, and no English translation that I could find. But, the movie was good, and far more put together than I thought it would be. Funny, smart, and some decent action. The similarities to the old spaghetti westerns are very obvious. I would definitely recommend it.

I have a few more to watch, and I will post if they are any good.
