Bucks Sign Daniel Santiago
MILWAUKEE, July 17 -- The Bucks have signed free agent center Daniel Santiago to a contract for the 2003-04 season, General Manager Larry Harris announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in accordance with club policy.
Santiago spent two seasons with the Phoenix Suns (2000-02) before spending the 2002-03 in Italy, where he averaged 12.0 points and 7.8 rebounds for Lottomatica Roma.
"Daniel will have an opportunity to compete for minutes on this team," Harris said. "He adds an offensive dimension to our frontcourt, and has the ability to score facing or with his back to the basket."
In two years with the Suns, Santiago played in 57 games, starting two. He averaged 3.1 points and 1.9 rebounds for Phoenix. Santiago played two seasons in Italy with Pallacanestro (1998-2000) before signing with the Suns and also played the 1996 Olympics and on two World Championship teams (1998, 2002) for the Puerto Rican National Team.
A native of Lubbock, Texas, Santiago played college ball for two seasons at the University of New Mexico (1995-97) before finishing his college career at St. Vincent College.
