On the post-game show last night, Leander asked him how the trade came about - Sarver made a point to say "they approached me with the trade idea, then I ran it by Kerr."

He and D'Antoni are more gamblers, he said. Kerr is more conservative so he had to think about it first.

Doesn't it seem odd they would go to the owner instead of the GM? Or maybe he's just trying to protect Kerr from criticism?

I had read previously that the Miami Heat owner approached Sarver initially.

I think after the hilarious KT trade, every GM in the nation knew the owner was running things, because no GM would give an expiring and two picks away for nothing. Kerr = middle man.

Very interesting story from the Miami Herald about how owners made this trade happen. It kind of explains how Cuban and Dallas were involved. Thanks Mark!

Cuban wanted O'Neal, but only if he could get him cheap. He asked Arison if he would consider buying out the remainder of O'Neal's $100 million contract. The answer was no

Interesting story. Just like Barkley said, Kerr has balls! I hate bureaucratic executives sitting in their front office doing nothing good for the team. It works or not, Kerr is a man dares to take responsible when it matters.

If it works and the Suns win championship, I will buy a photograph of Steve Kerr to hang on my wall for years!

But, don't believe in the Cuban part of story. The Mavs do not have the ability to put together an attractive deal. Taking Shaq, they must trade Dampier, who has a long terrible contract which no way Miami would take. And they don't have much expiring contract, either. We got rid of the bad contract on Banks, it is a fair deal after all.

According to DAN LE BATARD's article:

You should buy the photograph of Heat owner Micky Arison, not Steve Kerr.
