Client of mine gets these select showings and invited me and my wife. I'm a huge history/war buff, having had close relatives in leadership roles in WWII and Vietnam so I was excited about this movie. It actually started out pretty decently, but then quickly degraded. It was a private screening but the few people there actually chuckled during some "serious" moments because of how over the top Tom Cruise was. There was a gratuitous scene with his eyeball. I offer no spoilers except to say, wait for DVD

Yeah, I'm going nowhere near this one. Looks like it would be a great movie...if it weren't for Tom Cruise. Oh well.

Im seeing it opening week. Looks really good.

Lets be honest any of you looking for a German accent are just nitpicking. Considering the fact that if its realism you are looking for they should all be speaking full on German and the movie should be subtitled.

Granted, it is strange when 50 actors speak with a german accent and 1 does not. In The Hunt for Red October there is a scene where the audience is made to understand that the characters are speaking Russian but English is spoken as a transition. Brilliant move by the director

Actually in one of the previews for valkyrie one of the actors clearly has a British accent.

Not really all that strange considering that there were US citizens who went and fought for germany during WW 2. It is even made light of in Band of Brothers if Im not mistaken.

As I said you guys really are nitpicking. Especially if thats your biggest gripe.

I don't know Shane. Every time I see the preview it takes me out of the moment when he speaks. It may be nitpicking to you but it just breaks the illusion they're trying to create IMO.

It really wasn't a big deal to me. My biggest gripe is the often comical overacting of Tom Cruise. I don't want to set you up for a poor experience. Often I enjoy movie that other have hated and vice versa. It's all perspective

That's the impression I already had from the previews. You're just confirming it. I saw it last night and thought to myself, "Cornball!"

Well for anyone that goes and sees it you get to hear Cruise speaking in actual German for 3 of 4 sentences in the beginning. I enjoyed it. Not terrible and not great. Just good entertainment IMO.

Pretty much a boring movie. The climax was terrible and the buildup to the failed up attempt was pretty boring.

The whole accent thing is a problem. Why some Germans speak German, others speak English with their normal accents is stupid.

We were joking around that it would've been easy to know who was plotting against Hitler, they all had non-German accents and appeared not to ever speak German except in reading part of a letter as a narrative.

Some characters were underused (e.g. the Pirates of the Caribbean guy from the Wolf's Lair) while there was too much focus on others the other Pirates guy.

1/5

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Just saw this for the first time - wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Cruise was like a robot, and the story seemed a bit choppy.

Just saw this. It was slow at times but I liked this movie. What I liked was it showed that Hitler didn't have unanimous support amungst Germans (high ranking ones at that). I don't think that is ever portrayed enough in movies and people tend to stereo type the Germans as having blind unanimous backing of Hitler which wasn't the case. There were I think 15 attempts on his life or something like that?

I liked the movie. Not the best acting but entertained me. But I am a World War 2 nut so I like anything in that genre.

I thought the film was very good. The accent thing didn't bother me at all. After the first few minutes you get into the story and I didn't really notice it. It definitely wasn't a distraction, IMO.

Good acting all around, even from Cruise. I was impressed with the historical accuracy also.
