For a middle of the pack (salary wise) team, I have very little in the way of negative comments to say about ownership. Below is a clip of teams in and around the Dbacks in terms of team salary... With the exception of the Braves (who are always one the best talent evaluating teams in all of baseball), I think the Dbacks compare very well with regard to salary & wins/competitiveness...

Chicago Cubs $104,150,726
Baltimore $91,793,333
Milwaukee $91,003,366
Arizona $90,158,500
Atlanta $89,288,193
New York Mets $88,877,033
Seattle $84,295,952
Cleveland $82,517,300
Kansas City $80,491,725

I was thinking about when Kendrick took some heat for making Dodger fans change clothes. Personally, I love this entire organization, from top to bottom.

It has gotten much better since the Gonzo/Steriods comments. Kendrick is still a tool overall, but he is learning to stay quiet and let Hall be the face. I would give them a solid B+. They did not handle the Upton thing well as owners and got off to a rocky start. I do love the way Kendrick handled the fans wearing Doger gear. That was awesome.

Didn't Kendrick want Upton to stay? (I recall reading that he was NOT happy with trading Upton, but was staying out of the way.)

Being a tool is forgivable if you want to compete and empower your organization to do. I think Kendrick is fine that regard.

My only criticism is the team doesn't seem to have a dominant baseball personality with wisdom in the FO that can say, "Wait," or "Go," and everyone else listens. I don't know how you get those guys. I don't know how the Braves figure out the complicated player situations so well. They waited too long on Chris Young, although that took some character to do it. They needed to wait longer on Upton -- and keep their mouths shut in the process -- but they bawled and bailed. It does seem to be no minor handicap to getting over the hump. The Giants are savvy. I think the D-Backs need to watch that organization and learn.

I was talking more about this part of it that started the chain reaction.

After acknowledging the thumb Upton injured in the first series of the season, Kendrick said on the radio, "He's certainly not the Justin Upton that he has been in the past and that we would expect of him. He's 24 years old, and it's time for him to be a consistent performer and right now this year he's not been that."

More on it.

So, Kendrick swung hard and nobody saw it coming and now Upton is unhappier ("unhappy" arrived when he'd been benched, as he was again Wednesday night) and Drew could probably work himself into something like unhappy given the chance, which may have been Kendrick's plan. The aftermath, however, is not his to clean up. It's Gibson's. Fortunately for everyone, Upton told the Arizona Republic on Wednesday, he had a text conversation with Kendrick that was beneficial for everyone.

I did find this too.

Ken Kendrick, the managing general partner of the Diamondbacks, joined Doug and Wolf from Salt River Fields at Talking Stick Tuesday and shared his thoughts on the deal.

"Well I'd have to say yes," Kendrick answered when asked if he was glad the deal was in the rear-view mirror. "I think it's well-known that I'm a big Justin Upton fan, and continue to be and I hope he does very, very well.
