Maybe their "best player" rating is valid, but I don't think the draft will fall that way.

Len Dale White figures to go earlier (because there's a need for good RB's). Likewise, I'm not so sure there will be such a burning need for DE's that three of them will go in the Top 10.

Usually what happens is that (a) you wait for all the underclassmen to declare, (b) then you go thru the All Star Games, (c) then the Combines and (d) finally the Pro Days.

At each stage, there will be a shaking out process where there will be at least a couple of players who'll soar like an eagle or drop like a stone.

And when all is said and done, there will be at least 2 or 3 teams who still get it wrong.

Defensive corner, I don't know why but some sites use that instead of CB and Scouts always does. It's not like there's an offensive corner position.

Actually, according to that breakdown, A-Bomb is number 33 as a WR. He's got height and long arms, though needs to add about 40 lbs to compete at this level. Lacks top speed and strength, but is a heady player. Has some dropsie problems in pregame tailgate games, but is a good study of the game. I don't think he's a first rounder, but I'd take a flyer in the top of the third.

A-Bomb, Fitz and Boldin. The Super Bowl Triumvirate. Do it Denny!!

Look for White and Ngata to move significantly up the boards. Hali scares me as I am not sure he has the power. Ferguson will go top seven, but hard to see at 2. Huff's lack of true speed and cover skills make me think he is being ranked too highly. I think he is like a couple of his predecessors. He will make some big plays, but get beaten with too much regularity.

You don't think teams will view Ngata as too soft?

His most recent predecessor is going to the pro-bowl. :D

There are currently no safeties, however, on NFL rosters who played college ball at Texas.

Until DG arrived, the Cards would have been one of those teams.

harry you think Ngata workouts move him up? I watched the kid 2-3 times this year and every game the same thing, he just takes plays off. People can say that's the scheme, occupy 2 guys etc but I don't think they mean literally just stand there?

Freakish talent but his lack of a motor scares me. I'm kind of hoping he does move up, let someone else take him ahead of us and try to motivate him to play, let someone else slide to us.

But there is a part of me that thinks if we just sit his big butt in the middle of our DL and tell him to take up space and blockers on run plays, and come out on pass plays, that he might be OK?

I just don't like how many plays he takes off.

Good discussion here.

The problem with rating players like Ngata is...it's (2006 Draft) a very weak crop of DTs to begin with...so the pundits tend to promote the best players in a weak class. None of the DTs in this draft were consistently dominating players in college...look at Rodrique Wright and Orien Harris...both are outstanding physical specimens, but both played well in spurts, but seemed to disappear in some big games. This is why rating DTs is so difficult...they tend to get rated more on their physical potential, rather than on their performance grades.

But...what happens is...pro coaches see a player's physical prowess and believe that they can coach the player up.

LenDale White is the real deal. His combination of size, toughness and speed will garner him an extremely high grade in this draft. IMO, his ascension up the charts is warranted. His stock will further rise when scouts and pundits like Mel Kiper concur that he's the most likely RB in this draft to be an every down back...the kind of back teams can hand the ball to 25 times a game...and the kind of back who will get the tough short yardage and goalline yards.

The players that, IMO, will start rising dramatically up the charts: this group of OTs...and teams will start hopping on them early...D'Brickshaw will get it rolling by being a top 5 selection...but look for Marcus McNeil, Jonathan Scott, Winston Justice, Jeremy Trueblood, Eric Winston and even Max Jean-Gilles (who's more of an NFL guard) to go earlier than expected. All these kids could be 10+ year starters in the NFL.

And, when his own DC is saying the same thing, I'd think that has to hurt him some. Usually, college coaches overrate their guys, because the higher they go the better it looks for their program. For Ngata's DC to flat out say he doesn't play hard all the time was pretty darn harsh criticism.

Yet he was still voted team MVP by coaches and players and given a lot of other praise in the article.

Maybe he threatened to sit on people if they didn't vote for him:D

The kid I love at Oregon is the freshman RB Stewart, 5'11" 228. Got off to a great start partime but then hurt his ankle in the same game he had a long KO return for a TD. Wound up playing sparingly, but he's still considered one of the better RB prospects in the country. Not as fast as Marshawn Lynch but same kind of strength and refusal to go down running style.
