I have switched to Tred Micro and have discovered freedom. No more extreme processor usage, no more disgusting memory leaks. I now I have only 6000 KB mem usuage as opposed 25000

Not to mention I think Norton is all about money... Overwork your comp and continually adds pop up notifications to extend your license or add add-ons... Not to mention the virus database sometimes does not update for months at a time... My office is currently using half Norton, because the licenses were already paid for and half AVG Pro... AVG updates the dtabase about 3 times per week and I have never seen a pop up for add-ons or more money...

Best way to make a computer run better that is loaded with Norton "anything" is to unload it... usually will free up about 30% of your comps resources

You do know that the most common cause of extreme processor usage is a Norton "virus" that attaches itself to the Norton executable, as obviously one that Norton does not detect?

That said, glad you switched.

That would be great if it did not have the same problem on a clean install...

My company runs on Trend. Much small footprint and memory usage is so much lower. :)

Norton was just on CNN's front page on how they discovered ***** that allowed hackers to take control of your machine.

I used Norton once in like 98 never again.

McAfee rules.

What do you tech-nerds think about Microsoft's One Live product? I just installed it for the 3 month trial because my Norton subscription ran out and didn't want to spend the money again. Now, reading this thread, I'm glad I didn't.

But, for a semi-computer illiterate like myself, I like the interface of MS's antispyware/antivirus product so far.

I'd say if you want to spend money go with McAfee. If not, use the free version of AVG.

Yeah, there is a free version for home users. I used it when I had Verizon DSL.
When I switched to Comcast they offered free McAfee, so I went with that, but AVG worked just fine. Never had a problem with it.

Norton is ridiculous. It literally took over my friends computer. We formatted the sucker, and installed AVG and spybot. Runs 500x better now. I absolutely despise Norton.
