Here is our list of scrimmage games:

01/06/2009 Charlotte 49ers(51) (0)
01/07/2009 at Edmonton Slashers(51) (0)
01/08/2009 Westport Wild(51) (0)

01/11/2009 at London Crimson Storm(48) (+3)

I'm purposely also challenging the OAA team's above us...figured its time to send them a message that we're coming after them. :)

My game analysis:

To get better - we need to take on the best.

Charlotte is a very disciplined team with more players at higher levels than us.

Here is a match-up comparison to see how we stack:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/compare_teams.pl?team1=4135&team2=4795

As you can see - their oline and defense are very good.

What I saw:

We held them to under a 100 yards rushing.
The J0ker is much improved from last year and is starting to act like a possession receiver and get open.
We have a bust in our goalline AI:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=351948&pbp_id=2921444
Superspck - I restored the redzone goaline depth chart.

...bad blocking:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=351948&pbp_id=2922160

I caught a bust in the def AI:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=351948&pbp_id=2923628

Note: I made adjustment made to have MLB pick up the extra receiver.

Going for it on 4th down instead of FG:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=351948&pbp_id=2924460
Superspck: Running through the AI tester this is actually an input problem in every qtr. on 4th down - anywhere on the field regardless of time when down by at least 1 point.

I'm checking this out right now.

Superspck:

I made the following edits:

4th and Inch L - to only activate in when down 11-14points and between the 50 and the opponents goal.

4th and Short L - to only active when we're down by 11 to 14 points and inside the opponents 20 yard line.

4th and Med L -
to only active when we're down by 11 to 14 points and inside the opponents 20 yard line.

I really thought we had a chance at the upset. I'll take a closer look at the game film myself and see what improvements I can make.

Sounds good. Sorry about missing that.

Good changes, makes sure we take the points.

No problem - I found some holes on the defensive side.

Better to get the kinks out now in scrimmages than during the first round.

Shouldn't exist. There should be no "I" stuff in there if it's not offset.

AI Test confirms this.

I'm thinking our "speed TE" experiment is just about over. Haven't seen enough production from it to make it a keeper. It may leave Pushing Hands more tired, but he's a trooper.

Another option would be to put Joker in at TE2 spot and place another receiver outside in Joker's place. Just a thought.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=351948&pbp_id=2921688

This play happens a lot too. Our "blocking TE" (TE1) isn't quick enough to get down field and make an impact.

I'm gonna try Pushing Hands on half those plays and see who gets better results.

*side note

How fast are those linebackers?! My god it must be what facing us is like.

I'm going to change his settings to run block focus.

Also remember - those fast linebackers don't like smash mouth football.

Didn't seem to matter in this case. I went to outside heavy.

Let's rebound all over the punters!

Game on.

I guess what I'm saying is our oline is much stronger going north-south than to the outside.

Their agility/speed is better than average when compared to other olinemen...but their still north/south guys.

Just to recap everything:

After further review our AI settings lost the game for us - not the players. But I would say our AI development is really evolving in the right direction.

You must be registered for see images attach

For those not familiar with our AI settings - we have over 250 offensive settings and about 110 defensive settings. That is about 200 and 80 more settings than most teams.

On offense we have what we call 3 gears:

  • Smashmouth/Power - our base offense when ahead or tied.
  • Westcoast style/Shotgun - when behind 1 to 14 points.
  • Shotgun/FB Power running. - when behind greater than 14 points.
Each gear has independent plays from the other.

The basic idea is that if we're getting beat - we move onto the next gear to climb back into the game - depending on the severity of the point differentials.

One thing we may do is adjust the 2nd gear to kick in when down 4 to 14 points - to give our running game more of a chance....but that's under debate.

I have to say superspck (the architect) has done over 95% of the inputs...

....which is easily must have been 40 hours worth of inputing. So make sure to give a shout out to our mad scientist for his efforts!

Superspck...yer thoughts:

we got lit up for a safety on this play...its a good play - but they had an awesome dline (5-6 levels higher) that really blew up our oline w/ their speed on just that one play.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=351798&pbp_id=3558225
I don't think we need to adjust anything...just something to keep in our radar. We can't forget we taking on good teams - not a bunch of schmoes just to feel good about.

Dang Joel - C.Kidd mad a great cut here:

I'm a little disappointed in our back-up FS's...

I don't know what happened to Soveliss - but I'm putting Goatsie and ABP as the back-ups to Plenty of Range.

In the past two game's his guy has failed to make 2 tackles that resulted in TD's...and he hasn't logged in since 12/25.

Hm. I could make a "safety avoidance" input. Lots of FB inside runs. It's a 3 and punt though.

Like you said, I don't think it's an issue... yet. But thanks for making me aware.

The defense lit it up again, holding the Raptor to an astounding -19 (!) total rushing yards.

It amuses me that we can't sustain any real clock control because we score too fast with the rushing game.

I think we'll happily take it.

Yah! More digging and answering the eternal question of WHY?

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=352261&pbp_id=3927526

Maori longest play from scrimmage?

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=352261&pbp_id=3928096

I'm not going to break it down, but I wonder aloud, how many of the Maori TD's have come off the Pro Set Sweep this season?

lol...yeah by the time the defense gets to the bench the ST's returns a punt for a TD...or one of the HB's bust one loose.

Beginning of the season I was just hoping the defense would be able to slow teams down...I'm a bit suprised how dominating we're turning out.

I'm also a bit surprised why the pro set sweep is doing so good...I'm guessing its somewhere between that teams don't know how to defense it and/or our blockers (OLINE/TE/FB) are much more agile (quicker) getting out of the blocks.

Bull(fb) just cracks me up...
