Mock draft season is still in full effect right now! We at Seahawks Wire contributed to a Touchdown Wire site-wide mock draft, where we had the Seahawks selecting Alabama guard Tyler Booker. It seems all eyes remain on the offensive line for Seattle to address at pick No. 18 overall, as ESPN's draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. has the Seahawks going in that direction as well.

In his latest mock draft, Kiper has Seattle taking a big swing to help their offensive line. Instead of selecting a pure guard to immediately boost their interior offensive line, Kiper has the Seahawks drafting Kelvin Banks Jr. from the University of Texas. As one of the top tackle prospects in this draft, Kiper believes Banks could help give boost to multiple positions for the Seahawks, including guard.

Kiper writes:

"Banks gave up three sacks over 42 career starts at left tackle for the Longhorns. He's agile for 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, and he has some pop. The Seahawks have Charles Cross at left tackle, so Banks would help elsewhere on this lackluster offensive line. Right tackle Abraham Lucas has played in just 13 games over the past two seasons. The guard spots are both issues. Banks could fit in at any of those spots. New quarterback Sam Darnold ranked seventh in the NFL in QBR when he had a clean pocket in Minnesota last season (74.5). Facing pressure, he was 22nd (23.4). So it's pretty clear Seattle has to address the pass protection to maximize the Darnold signing."

According to ESPN, their top tackle prospect is Mizzou's Armand Membou, who Kiper has mocked to the New York Jets at pick No. 7 overall. I also understand entirely Kiper's logic in deciding to go tackle instead of guard. Seattle doesn't just have needs in their interior offensive line, but they need to start thinking about a potential succession plan for Abe Lucas. Unfortunately, Lucas' body continues to betray him. When he is healthy, he is a difference maker on the field. But availability is an ability as well, and drafting Kelvin Banks Jr. could address two birds with one selection.

Drafting an offensive lineman, whatever the position may be, is never the "fun" or "sexy" pick for a team to make. It's always more entertaining to get an explosive receiver or dominant defensive end. But right now, the Seahawks cannot afford to make the "fun" pick. They need to find a way to finally fix this offensive line which has been a disaster for the better part of the last decade. Adding a stalwart in Kelvin Banks Jr. would be an outstanding start to the 2025 NFL draft for Seattle.
