The Seattle Seahawks have bolstered their wide receiver corps in a way that every 12th Man, Woman and Child - especially those in Eastern Washington - can rejoice with! On Friday afternoon, the Seahawks came to terms with former Los Angeles Ram wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who is returning to Washington State on a three-year deal worth $45 million. This followed speculation throughout the day saying the Seahawks remained fully in the mix for Kupp.

After Seattle decided to part ways with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, the need at wide receiver became immediately evident. The Seahawks made smaller transactions, such as bringing in Marquez Valdes-Scantling and re-signing Cody White, but they still needed to make a big move to help bolster this critical position group. I'd say signing the MVP of Super Bowl LVI to come home definitely counts!

For many in the Pacific Northwest, such as yours truly (Eastern Washington University Class of 2018), watching Cooper Kupp thrive with the LA Rams has been a mixed experience. On one hand, it's always great to see a Washington native dominate in the NFL. On the other... man, did all this success have to be with the Rams!? Now, those who have wanted Kupp to be a Seahawk ever since he entered the league can finally celebrate!

Cooper Kupp, originally from Yakima, made a name for himself as a superstar at Eastern Washington University. During his years playing on the red turf of the Inferno, Kupp shattered all of Jerry Rice's FCS records. Kupp still holds the FCS career record for most receptions (428), receiving yards (6,464), and receiving touchdowns (73).

His prolific college career resulted in being selected No. 68 overall in the 2017 NFL draft, where he would go on to haul in 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns. His best year was 2021 when he earned the elusive receiving Triple Crown by leading the league in receptions (145), yards (1,947, second only to Calvin Johnson for most in a single year) and receiving touchdowns (16). Kupp became the first player to achieve the Triple Crown since Steve Smith did so in 2005.

Kupp is 31, and will turn 32 in June. Injuries have become a concern for him as of late, but when he is healthy he is still an impact player. Kupp hauled in 67 receptions for 710 yards and six scores in 2024.

In 2022, the Seahawks moved on from franchise legend Bobby Wagner, who went on to play for the Rams. It appears there is a bit of a role reversal here, where Seattle has taken a Rams legend. I'm sure Kupp is eager for the first game against his former team, and the chance to let them know they made a mistake letting him walk.
