According to PFT, several teams have dropped Sean Weatherspoon off their draft boards (no lie). Reason?

Apparently he "never stops talking."

He's from the Ochocinquo School of Loquation.

This is interesting because it's hard not to forget Weatherspoon's antics during the Senior Bowl game. When he was grandstanding after making a good play, at first I thought wow this kid plays with passion and hey why not try to liven up the game a little. But then as the grandstanding on the field and even moreso on the sidelines (doing camera bits, huddled around his teamates and ranting non-stop) became more and more ostentatious and self-aggrandizing, it became more of an annoyance and a turnoff.

With regard to the Cardinals I cannot envision Bill Davis wanting any part of this. Davis is a no-nonsense kind of coach.

Sure maybe some veterans will put SW in his place or at least try to. And perhaps the issue isn't as much of a concern as PFT is making it out to be...but if teams have taken SW off their draft boards for this reason, there has to be real credence to it.

I call BS. Dude is thought of as a tremendous kid in both character and leadership on the field. Sounds like a bunch of BS to me.

Of course. This is why we didn't sign a notorious talker like Joey Porter and have finally excised ourselves of another on-field conversationalist in Darnell Dockett.

It's 5 days until the draft & the rumors start flying about specific players. I think teams actually hire people to do this.

You are talking about established veterans who can talk the talk and walk the walk. Not sure any team will want SW shooting off at the mouth as a rookie. We'll see if Tom Coughlin minds because many people feel SW's the player that makes sense for them at #15.

If not, how about Bill Belichick (#21) or Andy Reid (#24) who are also looking for LBers.

We'll see. It may work out in the Cardinals' favor, and hopefully this is just what everyone thinks it is, a bunch of pre-draft ridiculousness.

I much prefer McClain and even Lee to a degree. I would rather give up future draft capital to get a guy like McClain or pluck Lee or Washington in 2nd.

I just dont see it with Weatherspoon on tape in game and would think that type of personality will go one of two ways and both are extreme.

We'll see but I get the feeling the Cardinals are looking in another direction.

Not that big a fan.

I personally like PFT but i think its a stupid call by them to assume that teams are letting a huge talent like Weatherspoon slide down their draft boards on the basis that he talks a bit too much. That is not a character issue at all if anything teams have been seeing Weatherspoon as a typical leader of the defense. Look at a guy like Ray Lewis who wouldnt shut up even when he is playing in a meaningless pro bowl game in february, yet he is considered the prototypical leader of the defense. So in short i dont buy it, but would love it if it helped slide Weatherspoon down to us.

I agree with you, Monty about Ray Lewis, but he was a superstar from the very first day he walked onto an NFL practice field.

But for every Ray Lewis there's an Ochocinquo and a TO.

I teach high school kids and I can tell you there are some kids you cannot shut up---they cannot stop. I usually give them passes and send them to guidance or on long walks to the lav.

If Weatherspoon is like this---and his ostentation at the Senior Bowl certainly suggests that he might be---it could be a legitmate issue.

It may be nothing to worry about, too, and just an over-reaction. But I will tell you this, the display Weatherspoon put on at the Senior Bowl would have turned off many of the head coaches in the NFL. It was nothing short of manic.

I understand the examples of 85 and TO as bad examples of somebody talking too much to the extent that it defies their game and makes them a bad influence on the team. However the difference between TO & 85 and people like Lewis is that Ray's talk is often aimed at geeying up the team and himself where as TO and 85 just seem mouth off about everything and anything and mainly non football related stuff. They are trying to hype themselves up more then anything else which just goes to show their own stupidity and self-delusions more then anyting else. When i see Weatherspoon on the field he is all about getting team and himself psyched up and i like to see that. However when you hear him of the field he seems like an intelligent down to earth and humble guy and therefore id put him more in a group with Lewis then TO and other fools like him.

interesting that there are different opinions on Weatherspoon's performance at the Senior Bow and combine. Here is one from NFL Draftscout.com

TOP RATED NFL DRAFT SCOUT OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS: Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri, 6-1, 239, 1: The Spoon plays bigger than he measures, and his impact includes motivating teammates with his infectious enthusiasm. He impressed scouts at the Senior Bowl with his play and leadership, and his engaging personality didn't hurt him at the scouting combine, either. As a freshman, he led Missouri in special-teams tackles, then became a starter on the weak outside as a sophomore, where he collected 127 tackles (9½ for a loss). In 2008, Weatherspoon had 155 tackles, including 17 in his MVP performance in the Alamo Bowl. Last year, he had 104 tackles, including 14½ for a loss, and 4½ sacks. He has the athletic ability to run around and make things happen, but he will need to show he has the strength to be a consistent defender in the NFL. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com/CBS Sports/USA TODAY

I would love to see him there at #26 and the Cards pick him but I have no idea how the players are ranked on their board. There always is lots of misleading talk by gm's & coaches at this time. No one really is showing their "cards". (pun intended).

Did anyone listen to his interview of KTAR the other day? The guy was very respectful, personable, and much more quiet and composed then I had anticipated.

This is what I thought as well. Sean Weatherspoon will be an awesome pro, and I hope the Cardinals are in a position to take him. His leadership will go a long way towards shaping up the undisciplined rabble that we call our defense.

Dream Draft:
1-Sean Weatherspoon - WILB
2-Terrance Cody - NT
3a-Brandon Spikes - SILB
3b-Thaddeus Gibson - OLB
4-Walter Thurmond III - CB
6-Mike Kafka - QB
7-Armanti Edwards - QB/WR

Graham is going to be a beast. I really see no way he's there. In my book he's the best pure edge rusher coming out.

I like Sean Weatherspoon and think he is going to be a great player but man I hope we take Jerry Hughes at #26 if both are there. Reason being is that I want Hughes teammate Washington in Round #2.

Yes please. The Alabama duo would be a nice two player on one team parlay as well :)

McClain, Weatherspoon in the first
Washington in the 2nd
Spikes in the 3rd or 4th.

Any combination of 2 of these would make me happy combined with a NT in the 3rd or another stud in the first instead of ILB like Kindle , Graham, Wilson.

The real rumor we need is Cody and Bruce Campbell slipping into the 3rd.

1. Sergio Kindle / Kyle Wilson /Brandon Graham/ Jerry Hughes
2. Darryl Washington
3. Terrence Cody
3. Bruce Campbell
4. Brandon Spikes
6. Cirion Black
7. Micah Johnson

Perfect. :)
Might have to pickup a PR and a CB somehow.
