This is interesting.

Adam_Schefter Seattle OL coach Alex Gibbs, an all-time great assistant coach, abruptly resigned a week before Seahawks opening game. More at ESPN.com.

resigns is the worst word in football. Sometimes it means re-sign (new contract) sometimes it means quit.

Can be confusing! :)

There we go, another ***** in the Pete armor. That is pretty damning from a quality position coach that has been around a long, long time.

Apparently releasing important assistants on the eve of the season is the new trend in the NFL.

I know and I thought about that when making the thread.
You can change it to quits if you want.

LOL, no your title is fine. I try to always say "re-sign" if I mean new contract. But you used the word correctly. Just looked it up at dictionary.com Both words are there with different meanings.

Interesting as Alex Gibbs is one the best OL coaches in the league and has been for a very long time.

One of them should be spelled rezine.

This is a very interesting move and Gibbs is one of the first specialty coaches to get me to start paying more attention to those guys.

It used to be, whatever team Gibbs was coaching the o-line was going to have a great running game. However, it seems like the athletic, knee-shredding approach that he employed isn't what it used to be.

His time in Atlanta can be considered misleading since they had Vick and the rushing numbers they acquired aren't necessarily indicative of a good o-line. He then went to Houston and reunited with Kubiak and there was no real fix there either.

Believe me, I used to think Gibbs was magic but there really hasn't been much evidence of it in a while. Dude's 69/70 years old so it just may be time for him to hang it up.
