Less than a year after being hired by the Cardinals, senior director of football operations John Idzik will interview with the Seattle Seahawks this week for their vacant team president job.
A Cardinals spokesman said Wednesday the Seahawks had asked for and were granted permission to talk to Idzik.
The Seahawks have been searching for a president since Bob Whitsitt was fired Jan. 14, and the team has come under local and national criticism for taking so long to find a replacement.
Idzik, Miami vice president and chief operating officer Bryan Wiedmeier and Atlanta vice president of player personnel Ron Hill are among those reportedly on the Seahawks’ short list.
Idzik, a longtime friend of Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves, was hired in May to oversee player personnel administration, team travel and training camp in addition to working with Graves on contract negotiations. He is also the Cards’ salary cap expert.
Coincidentally, the Cards’ previous salary cap guru, Jay Nienkark, was hired by the Seahawks after Arizona fired him last offseason.
