Just because the conference does not have a truly dominant team, they are whining about how their conference is too strong top to bottom for any team to go undefeated and compete for the national championship.

I watch a lot of college football and I think that's a bogus argument. Some years, the SEC is the best conference. Other years, it's the Big 12 or Big 10 or nobody at all.

So far this year, in my opinion, USC is the most overrated team. Arkansas is the most underrated but the rest of the SEC is vastly oveerrated. The most underrated conference is the ACC.

Good post - you make some interesting points. The SEC is tough but nobody seems to have a world class offense. But I do agree with Tuberville's overall point - that when a conference has several top teams they just beat each other up and lower the odds that a championship team could come from that conference. One thing about the SEC though, the weaker teams in that conference have improved so there are fewer automatic wins there for the big boys.

In my opinion USC is not really overrated until somebody beats them. If they go undefeated then they deserve a shot at the championship.

BCS teams #4 through #12 or so seem pretty even to me at this point. Arkansas started off underrated but are probably rated about where they should be now. But if they keep beating the tougher SEC teams I will jump on the bandwagon with you.

What makes you think the ACC is underrated? They seem to be having a down year. Nobody looks like a world beater there.

Overrated teams IMO - Auburn, Notre Dame (sorry - I don't think they've looked that impressive against a generally weak schedule. I'll change my mind if they hang with USC), Iowa

Underrated teams IMO - Texas (only #9 in BCS?), Tennessee (how does Cal get in front of them in the BCS after the Vols crushed them?), Wisconsin

Rating conferences by the results of their interconference games can be quite deceiving. Very few games take place cross conference by elite teams from super conferences. The evaluation seems to come post season during the bowl games when there are no in conference games. SEC consistently tops the results chart while the biggest flops seem to come from Big 10 and Big 12.

I now live in SEC country, everyone I work with is either a U of Tn, Ole Miss, Auburn or LSU fan. They bascially believe every other conference can't compete with the SEC.

While I think the SEC is a good conference they have a lot of weak teams. USC whooped Arkansas and they've gone unbeaten in SEC play so far.

I moved here around the first of September.

I like it here, a huge change from the desert though.

Yeah, I used to snowboard all the time. No snow, or mountains here. The humidity in the summers gets pretty bad.
