Seems like Alex Smith is a typical fit for the Cards

Older, experienced, can make all throws, accurate, doesn't make many mistakes. Seems like more than any other, you know exactly what you are getting. Not flashy, but easily does the job. I just feel he would make a great Cardinal. Plus with him, we don't have to panic about drafting a QB. Can wait till right one falls to us this year, or the next couple after that.

BUT, I think he would be perfect for the Jags. Just what they need to increase their odds of going all the way. I would love to see him go to them if not us.

The main question is what KC wants for him. Conditional pick in 2019? Maybe. A couple of 2nd rounders? LOL, no.

Too old? Too costly? Not a building block for the future?

Ehhh..maybe not.
will be the same age next season that palmer was when he came to AZ... then Palmer went on to have 5 of the best seasons in Cards history.

their stats are actually somewhat similar, age 25-33 season

I'm hoping for Alex, but that doesn't preclude me from wanting us to be aggressive in the draft to land someone early as well.

We will need some a vet to start the season and mentor whomever we draft. Frankly, I wouldn't be upset if we draft two QB's and let them compete and learn together. Cousins certainly lasted longer than Bob Griffith, and folks though DC was crazy to take both in the same draft.

I honestly think Alex would do a great job with it, and I don't put it past him to compete for the starting job in year 2 and 3.

Go Cards!!!

“can make all throws” lol
this isn't BAs offense anymore. truth be told, not many coaches play call with such emphasis on the deep ball.

i sure as hell don't want us to become a dink and dunk offense though, but toning back the long routes would be a good thing

I prefer Alex Smith over Kirk Cousins.

Everyone knows what Smith is. He is a decent QB that will not lose the game for you.
everyone also knows smith only has a few years left.

Kirk Cousins on the other hand is younger. any team signing Cousins is doing so with the thought that he will be leading their team for the next 10 years.

a team that signs Smith will still be looking for a QBoTF, a team that signs Cousins will think they have him.

I think the market for Smith is limited;deep draft pool, unusually high number of free agents. I think a conditional 3rd gets him. The condition would be a fourth next year if he starts 12 games.

If a third would get him I would do it in a heartbeat. He's a solid experienced QB that can win with a good defense. Don't get me wrong I still want us to draft our QBOTF but he would be great insurance in case the draft didn't go our way like last year.

Dear lord, I wouldn't want him as a FA, unless he came on the cheap as a mentor, but you're talking a 3rd and maybe more? I'd start up the "Fire Keim" bandwagon over THAT crap show!

Then you don't want Alex Smith.

He's like beginner origami once the playoffs start. He easily folds.

Two words... Andy Reid

Smith by almost every statistic is a better QB than Palmer. It would be an upgrade. Can't say that for sure about a rookie or anyone else available.
Andy Reid that lead a team to what was it...five NFC Championships?..wait no...it was FOUR straight NFC Championship games, and a Super Bowl...

yeah,.. Andy Reid is clearly the problem in KC

Well he'd be perfect here then since we won't be sniffing a playoff birth for several years. We'll be doing good not to end up in the cellar the next couple years.

I know there is a lot of talk that Smith is nothing more than a check down QB, however these stats bear out otherwise. Most of these stats are quite close with one exception, Smith turned the ball over about half the time Palmer did. I for one would not mind seeing Smith in Cardinal red and then looking to draft a QB every year or every other year for the next few years.
