Corddry and Davis Board Semi-Pro
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
February 2, 2007

Former "Daily Show" senior correspondent Rob Corddry is joining the cast of New Line Cinema's Semi-Pro, says The Hollywood Reporter. DeRay Davis will also star in the Will Ferrell sports comedy being directed by Kent Alterman.

Written by Scot Armstrong, the story is set in the world of the American Basketball Association and follows Jackie Moon (Ferrell), the owner-coach-player of the fictional Flint Michigan Tropics. Moon must lead his team on a desperate attempt to make it to the big leagues.

Will Arnett, Woody Harrelson and Andre Benjamin have already signed up.

Corddry will play Harrelson's nemesis, the man who is dating his ex-girlfriend. Davis is a player who showboats on court, getting many fouls.

Shooting is scheduled to start this month in Los Angeles.

Funny thing about this movie, with the ABA most of this crap may be based off real life stuff.

Semi-Pro

Release Date: February 29, 2008
Studio: New Line Cinema
Director: Kent Alterman
Screenwriter: Scot Armstrong
Genre: Comedy, Sports
MPAA Rating: N/A
Website: Semi-Pro

Starring: Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, Andre Benjamin, Maura Tierney, Will Arnett, Andy Richter, Rob Corddry, DeRay Davis, Josh Braaten, Jay Phillips, Jackie Earle Haley

Plot Summary: Will Ferrell stars in "Semi-Pro," an outrageous comedy set in 1976 against the backdrop of the maverick ABA – a fast-paced, wild and crazy basketball league that rivaled the NBA and made a name for itself with innovations like the three-point shot and slam dunk contest. Ferrell plays Jackie Moon, a one-hit wonder who used the profits from the success of his chart-topping song "Love Me Sexy" to achieve his dream of owning a basketball team. But Moon's franchise, the Flint Michigan Tropics, is the worst team in the league and in danger of folding when the ABA announces its plans to merge with the NBA. If they want to survive, Jackie and the Tropics must now do the seemingly impossible – win.

Horrible. I couldn't wait for the end. Very few funny parts. Another stinker after Blades of Glory. Ferrell has gone stale much like Adam Sandler after a good run.

Its funny, I hate basketball but I enjoy basketball movies (Hoosiers, Glory Road)...go figure. Sort of the way I am with Hockey too (Miracle, Slapshot).

This was about what I expected--cheap laughs like Ferrell is known for and mindless entertainment, if you went in expecting great dialogue and some wonderful sub-plot hidden in there you'd be disappointed.

I am looking forward to his next movie Step Brothers.

I saw it. Not one of his best, but there were definitely some LOL parts. If you haven't seen it yet and want to, I'd say it's save to wait for the DVD.

I just saw this movie for the first time in a while and it reminded me how freakin hilarious some of it was.

So many quotable lines. "Now now, nobody called you a JT, he just called you a ......"

"We dont even got corndogs!"

"I shouldn't, no,,, oh I cant say no to you! We are gonna get some *$%$#$ aren't we? It's gonna be fun."

"CORNDOGS JACKIE, CORNDOGS for all these people!"

"Who the $##$ is Bambi?"

"Jackie's teammates doing just an awful job of stabilizing his spine off the court"

Jackie to the ref: "That wasn't a foul,,,, I'LL KILL YOUR FAMILY!"

and Jackies reacton to when they told him he wasn't gonna be coach anymore was simply comedy gold. They're all standing there hoping he takes it well and needless to say, he doesn't.

lol, it wasn't a great movie but I was laughing more often than not. I could see it not being everyones cup of tea, but man I was amused.

Yeah, Semi-Pro sucked pretty hard. Anchorman was great, as was Talladega Nights. Semi-Pro bombed.

Read here Bert! All except the bolded is truth!

I agree it was horrible. However I like most of his films. I'm not sure what it was about this one. I usually love basketball movies too.

I would rank ferrell way above sandler.
