Serena Williams took a little longer than expected to top Kaiai Kanepi after sweeping the Estonian in the first set of their Round of 16 matchup, but Williams still held on to win 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 and reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals on Sunday. It took Williams only 18 minutes to hang a donut on Kanepi in the first set, but Kanepi showed new life with a first-game break of Williams to open the second set. The two exchanged breaks later in the second set, enough for Kanepi to take the match to the third set.
