Everyone is saying that he was clearly down. Funny though, we did not get a SINGLE angle from the other side of Edge where he was actually holding the ball so how can anyone make a clear assumption on the play. That ball could have been out before it came into view or his elbow hit. Just a point not many people have brought up and something Ram fans need to consider too if they are complaining about us not getting stopped at the goal line instead and simply getting another shot to punch it in and we would have punched it in...heck Warner, was even able to punch it in by the goalline on them.

If the play would have been called correctly, 1 of 2 things would have happened.

1. 98% Likelihood of being right - Edge was down at the 1/2 yard line and we have the ball. Down by contact. 1 Elbow and 2 knees were down, and the on-site optometrist call's a 10 minute timeout to check all referees for cataracts.

2. 2% Likelihood of being right - If Edge wasn't down (VERY unlikely), then the Rams actually recovered the ball in the endzone for a touchback. The defender had control of the ball, and had his knee down. Wells, when sliding into him, actually ended the play by touching him. Wells then wrestles the ball away from the defender while they were both down in the endzone. The Rams should have had the ball on the 20 yard line due to the touchback.

What actually happened was something out of the twilight zone. But I will take it.

The Rams defender never had control of the ball. It rolled underneath him and he was lying on top of it but he did not have control of it. Wells grabbed it out from underneath him not from his hands or arms.

At least I think that's what happened. :D

Thats absolutely how I saw it. The defender fell on the ball but it ended up unserneath his ribs. Wells clearly saw the ball and all he had to do was "push" him off it and grab it which he did.

That being said, the right call was down by contact at the 1/2 yd. line.
