Setanta is expected to fall into the hands of administrators after being stripped of its right to broadcast Premier League football matches next season and after its supposed Russian white knight pulled the rug from under a multimillion-pound investment.
The Premier League terminated its contract with Setanta after the Irish broadcaster failed to make a scheduled £10 million payment on £30 million owed before last night’s deadline.

ESPN is mentioned as a possibility to purchase broadcasting rights.

Its all up in the air over here re setanta. They had 46 games package for next season but as yet no one else has picked them up. Not even sure if Sky Sports can as the have all the others.

I was paying £14.99 per month for Setanta (on top of £52 per month for sky) but with the 3 Setanta channels you also got ESPN America which caried all the NCAA stuff and MLB. I cant see people paying the £14.99 just for ESPNA though so i'm hoping like hell we dont lose it all together.

I couldn't justify $15 dollars/mo for Setanta here. I'm hoping that that either ESPN or Fox Soccer Channel picks up the rights, at least here in the US. I would actually be able to watch Arsenal against teams at the top of the league.

Agreed! It was ridiculous to have to pay that much for one station, and I'm glad they won't have such a stranglehold any more. I wouldn't want them to go with FSC for the simple fact that I don't think they'd put many more games on than they already have now. I'd definitely vote for ESPN, because we'd be getting tons more free games and English would still be able to see them for the same amount of money he pays now.

Still a little troubling. It said ESPN is now the sole holder of Premiership rights. What? No more Premiership on FSC? Also, it said towards the end that it would be available on different tiers of pay packages. No thanks, ESPN.

I think that's just in the UK.

Ya, ESPN only purchased Setanta's part of the Premiership games. FSC still holds their games, ESPN only ended up with 46 this year and 23 for 2011-2013. I really doubt that the games will be on anything other than ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic here in the states simply because there aren't any other channels in place, and I doubt they will be able to get a new channel together and through all the cable and satellite networks before the season starts up in the fall.

Good to know, guys. I suspected I may have misread, but I had to fly through the article and run, so I didn't have time to double-check. Thanks for looking out, guys.

Just saw this:

As has been widely reported in various media channels, Setanta Sports has had its agreement to broadcast 46 Barclays Premier League matches in the UK terminated.
This development does not affect our channels and other services in the US.
Setanta Sports in the US is a separate operation that has separate agreement to show the Barclay’s Premier League. Our channels and other services in the US continue to broadcast and our subscribers can still enjoy our programming including the Lions Tour of South Africa and the UEFA U21 European Championship.
New customers are welcome to subscribe to watch some of the world’s best soccer and rugby either by contacting our cable and satellite partners or online at www.setanta.com.
We thank you for your continued interest in Setanta Sports and look forward to bringing you a wealth of sport over the coming months and years.

Crap. The UK gets EPL games on ESPN and we're still stuck with $15/mo Setanta. :bang:

Wow, talk about a roller coaster of emotions. I was pumped there was gonna be so many more EPL games to watch this year...and I don't even have an EPL team. Just thought it would be good for the MLS and US soccer

Setanta is going under in the U.S. now too.

http://www.socceramerica.com/article/36502/setanta-sports-set-to-fold-in-usa.html

Setanta Sports confirmed on Wednesday that it plans to cease broadcasting in the United States at the end of February and sell select programming rights, including those to many premium soccer and rugby events, to Fox Soccer Channel.

But don't get your hopes up...Fox is launching its own premium channel, Fox Soccer Plus.

http://paidcontent.org/article/419-...occer-channel-ending-relationship-with-setan/

Fox is launching its own HD premium soccer channel, Fox Soccer Plus. Sub-licensing of Barclays Premier League and UEFA Champions League to Setanta for its Setanta Sports USA is ending, according to a Fox Sports spokesman. Those games will be on Fox Soccer Plus starting March 1.
