i've watched a few episodes b/c i'm curious about the social experiment. and though i know that producers twist the material they have to fit their own needs i have to say i'm somewhat flabbergasted by the results thus far.

through the 3 or 4 episodes i've watched so far i've fully expected the dudes to not meet their "match" at the end due to the women being overweight or not entirely attractive, and thus far i've been shocked to see almost every guy take a flier if they've liked the girl in the dark.

it is equally, if not more, shocking to me that the opposite has proven true of the women. they use phrases like, "i cannot believe i'm falling for him so quickly," or "i think i really found my match" throughout the show. then, when the dudes are revealed, the ladies bail. a surprisingly large percentage of them. even ones where i think the dude will bail due to the woman's physical shortcomings and the dudes pull through altruistically, sticking to the feelings they've built in the dark, and the ladies still cannot overcome their physical prejudices.

i really thought we'd see the results divide unevenly between men and women, but i really thought we'd see it skew unfavorably towards men emphasizing looks rather than women. seems women are proving to be a bit shallower in this admittedly limited sampling of our society.

anyone else finding this interesting (as whole - the actual interactions are rather vanilla and not very interesting)?

So you thought the women would be nicer / less shallow than the men?

Interesting, in general I would of guessed exactly what you described happening.

Although it's just dating, I suspect in terms of actual marriage it'd be different.

I actually was thing of created the exact same thread. I am surprised by it as well. Some of the women are not very attractive and still bail even though they admit they are falling for the guy. Some have even called the guy cute, but still bail. The best one though was the girl that did not even show up to be revealed.

My wife and I had this same discussion the other night. We both commented on how we thought the guys would be more shallow, but we have been dead wrong...and it actually makes you feel a little sad for some of the guys.

There was one episode that was just BRUTAL... Basically all 3 girls fell for the same guy and all three picked him before they saw him... Then after actually saw him ALL THREE bailled.. it was shocling to watch, and the dude was not like some creature.. he look average I would say.... It made for great TV, but was kindof brutal to watch....

I personally am glad they are showing all sides, I think it may be the most realistic dating show in the HISTORY of TV, and that says something in and of itself....

I am enjoying the show...
