This is a new series on,....MTV of all places,....based on the Shannara series by Terry Brooks.

I watched the first episode last night. It was not disappointing at all...some discrepancies from the books but nothing too major,...and apparently Terry Brooks has final approval of all scripts.

I am going to give this one a few episodes before I form a solid opinion on it however it has started out pretty well.

From Wiki..........

The Shannara Chronicles roughly follows the storylines set out in The Elfstones of Shannara,[4] set about 300 years after the War of the Races—which ceased magic and confined the demons on the Forbidding, locked by an ancient tree called the Ellcrys. The series chronicles the journey of Wil, Amberle and Eretria, who must fight, with the guidance of the last Druid, Allanon, to protect the Ellcrys from dying and unleashing all the demons to the Four Lands.[4

I'm giving this one a major, major pass. I watched early trailers and didn't even know it was Shannara until I saw the name at the end. As in, this is CW crap wedged into a fantasy show. PASS.

This show is ****.

I am watching anyway because I am a fantasy junkie but this show is overall not good.

Main points of criticism
-complete lack of authenticity, most of the actors are super styled model types that look totally out of place in a fantasy setting. Fancy haircuts, makeup, lipstick, tight pants, bleached teeth that are unrealistically white.

- half-elven boy who somehow has a perfect six pack despite supposedly being an "average joe" that just discovers his royal heritage

- special effects are so so

- too many obvious booty shots on that human girl

This is bascially glamour fantasy MTV style.

I was a teen when I read these books....always pictured those booty shots in my head as I read...maybe that was just me,lol.

one of the issues I have with it,.. although minor....wasn't Allanon like 7 feet tall in the books?? I like Manu Bennet just fine as an actor,...but he is not that tall.....it is a minor thing,...I guess if Tom Cruise can be Jack Reacher then Manu Bennet can be Allanon.......... the effects are adequate for a TV series that employs lots of them.

Yes, and he was also much, much older. Yeah, I'm avoiding this one like the plague.

I am watching as well but because like others I love this genre. This show doesn't look cheap to produce. I have seen much worse on the Syfy network. I will hang on for a bit to see how it goes.

It's just hard to temper your expectations when it comes to FX and everything is compared to LOTR or GOT when it comes to FX on TV. It will be interesting to see what the ratings expectations are for this show and how long it be on the air.

Well, since there are so many shows and movies you do like, I'm sure it won't be too hard. LOL

Why the green? Lol

Actually, I love a ton of shows and movies. Some off my DVR are Rick and Morty, Agent Carter and Shield, Sleepy Hollow, Leftovers, Supernatural, Expanse, Black Sails, Vikings, Ripper Street, Last Kingdom, Netflix's Marvel shows, Amazon's Man in the High Castle, Turn, The Bridge, Ray Donovan, Hell on Wheels, Americans, Bates Motel, Orphan Black, Legends, Manhattan, Tyrant, and...I'm tired of typing :D

I'll spare you (and my fingers) the movies on my shelf :)

well, four episodes in, I have to say I am actually enjoying the show. It is not thought provoking, or controversial, nor frightening...just basic easy going fun entertainment... this next episode should say a lot about the future plans for the show,..or overall quality,... The Reaper is being introduced....IIRC the reaper was a pretty prominent bad guy for a good portion of the story...I am looking forward to seeing how they work it.

Baywatch with pointy ears and magic,...okay.....

for those of you who have committed to not touching this show with a ten foot pole,...I offer you this....

The Shannara Chronicles canceled, being shopped to other networks for season 3

https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/t...er-networks-for-season-3/ar-AAuOTNy?ocid=iehp

The fantasy of the Four Realms has come to an end — on Spike, at least.

The network, which picked up The Shannara Chronicles after its first season aired on MTV in 2016, has canceled the series based on Terry Brooks’ best-selling books after two seasons, EW has confirmed. The fantasy drama was one of Spike’s two scripted series debuts in 2017 — the other being The Mist — and both have been dropped ahead of the network’s transformation into Viacom’s general entertainment Paramount Network.

Still, the cancellation may not be the end of the road for Wil (Austin Butler), Eretria (Ivana Baquero), Allanon (Manu Bennett), and the series’ sprawling cast of colorful characters. EW has confirmed that Sonar Entertainment, the studio behind The Shannara Chronicles, has begun shopping the series to potential other networks, including streaming outlets that may want to capitalize on the series’ epic scope.

Huh. I had watched season 1. It was okay to blegh. Was going to give season 2 a shot. Had no idea it moved to another network. And now it may move again? Has any other series done that?

I don’t think it moved. I think Syfy was a partner and aired them there as well. I never watched a single episode on SPIKE. I could be wrong.

Season 1: MTV
Season 2: Spike
Season 3: ????

I meant broadcast partnership. I watched Season 1 as it aired on SYFY. I don’t have MTV I don’t think on my streaming services.
