I want to mention this perspective is from a Miami Heat fan (duh) concerning the Shaq trade.

Thanks. You let us off the hook. We were on the titanic for the next 2 years with SHAQ. He wants to make 20 million a year, more than Kobe, Wade, Lebron, (only Kevin Garnett makes more in the entire NBA) but be 36 years old soon, miss 30 games a season, take vacations during the regular season because he doesn't believe in playing 82 games a year (jipping the fans who go to the games during the year, I know first hand experience how it feels like over and over)

He just is not a centerpiece player anymore. The championship in 2006 was due for the most part to a player named Dwyane Wade. Don't get me wrong, if Shaq was not there, no ring....but if Wade didn't play like Michael Jordan in '06 playoffs, Shaq wasn't carrying anything. I remember a game from the HEAT playoffs vs the Pistons. HEAT were up 3-2 and then Wade had to miss a game. The game that Wade missed, the Pistons won by 30 points. It wasn't even a contest anymore. Shaq CANNOT do squat without a Kobe or a Wade, or a Penny. This is made even worse with him being old.

The HEAT were done with Shaq. We need to give Wade help, and we just could not afford any more help. Shaq needs -a lot of help- to win nowadays, but he wants to make 20 mil a year too.

So thanks. The HEAT have been let off the hook for another 2 more seasons of lottery picks.

Now for what I think on the SUNS + Shaq.

Suns will not win anything with their current setup. You don't win playoff games by not playing defense. When you need a stop, you need a stop. You can't hope to just outscore everyone all the time, because when you are cold or they actually stop you/steal the ball, you can't play D so they score and you lose. This is why the same 5 teams have been hogging the NBA title since 1988. Pistons, Lakers, Bulls, Spurs, and Heat. They all play half-court offense and could shut you down on defense when they had to.
So bringing Shaq in to a high scoring Suns team is a godsend for you.

The Suns IMMEDIATELY go from one of the worst frontcourts in the NBA, to one of the best. Shaq will destroy Bynum. Shaq, for whatever reason, always beats Tim Duncan. He abuses Duncan. Shaq will abuse most any center in the NBA. It doesn't matter if Shaq is a little injured, missed a lot of games and didn't make the All-Star team for the first time in like 15 years, put him up 1v1 with ANY CENTER IN THE LEAGUE, and watch Shaq dominate. He can still do it, just not for the whole season anymore.

This is exactly what your team needed. Shaq is amazing with 3 point talent around him. When my HEAT won the championship, we had Posey, Payton, Walker, and Williams all shooting 3's from wide open spots because Shaq is an amazing passer. He will kick it out to an open man pretty fast.

Remember when Damon Jones was the best 3 point shooter in the league? He was playing with Shaq in Miami.

Remember last year when Jason Kapono was the best 3 point shooter in the league? He was playing with Shaq in Miami.

He WILL pass it to your open guys. You guys have great jump shooters, so now teams will have to pick their poison. Cover the 3's or double Shaq.

Then you have the Steve Nash factor. Expect Steve Nash to give you highlight plays by lobbying a dunk to Shaq. Nash will have a field day slashing to the basket and dishing it out to Shaq for a dunk. You guys are in for a ride.

Good move for both teams. Phoenix has the talent to acquire Shaq and win. The HEAT don't have the talent anymore, we only have Wade. It's the Dwyane Wade show, featuring Shaq in cameo appearances.

Good luck, I'm rooting for the Suns now that Shaq is on your team, except when you play the HEAT :)

Geat post Heat fan. I too live in Miami and have been watching this team for over 3 years (in fact i have been to every Heat/Suns game since i Moved) and i appreciate your sentiment as jaded Laker fan doesn't have quite the same perspective.

For your team this was a no brainer. My only concern is Marion might help you win games and thats not a good thing. You guys should be following the SA Spurs road map the season BTD (Before Tim Duncan) so you can Beasely.

Beasley, Wade, sick FA (cuz everyone loves Miami) = only one year of rebuilding.

So I'm happy for you guys too:)

oh, and get ready for a flood of bandwagon fans. Shaq has a huge following, and many posters on our HEAT board are already saying goodbye HEAT, hello Suns :p

Well Hack a Shaq comes to my Suns. IMO, bad move. It will slow us down to standing still. When the game is close Shaq will be shotting foul shots. He is an old 36 with many bad moving parts like his legs. Losing Shawn hurts. He always played hard and when he takes over a game he is dominate. We will
miss him . We will see what happens but I don't see good things.

Nope.

This is Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks (we need PG badly, jwill injured, smush is slapping female car attendants) for Shaq. No draft picks. A future lottery pick + Shaq is paying too much imo.

Dallas was offering Josh Howard as part of a package for Shaq. They didn't want draft picks, but Phoenix heard what was going on and got scared of a possible Dirk/Shaq/ lineup (to add to Lakers Gasol) that they jumped in and offered Marion, which sounds a little better because Marion might opt out after this season, or expires next season.

The HEAT need their draft pick very much :p

Duncan and the Spurs beat the Lakers like twice in the Western Conference playoffs , once in the West Finals. Shaq doesn't have Duncan's number. He has trouble covering him.

Great move for the Heat. They get a PG who does have a bad deal, but will probably do a bit better in Riley's system. Marion next to D-Wade will be a very good, high flying match up. Marion will probably opt in for next year at 17.5 mill, and could resign w/ the Heat. The Heat will still be bad this year, and get a top pick. If they get Beasely or Rose, the trio of Marion-Wayde-that pick could be good down the road (not championship good, but they'll win more than 9 games).

MIAMIHEAT, why are you on Phoenix Suns? You are scared???? Your team is not going anywhere, and you are going to be depressed when Marion leaves....

Go back to Miami and sit in one of those assisted living complexes.

If a heat fan comes here and wishes us well or ill, then that is that no need to hurl flames. Trust me on this one though: You are going to want to save that type of energy for when we probably meet the lakers and ESPECIALLY the spurs in the playoffs. It is going to get REALLY ugly then. We are going to need shaq fans to be 100% because the blows back and forth during that time can be downright brutal. Trust me on that one!

This is what I've been saying.

I absolutely CRINGE everytime some ****** from ESPN spouts something like, "Shaq delivered a championship to Miami". Total lack of respect for Alonzo who covered just about every defensive deficiency Shaq had brought with him.

While I enjoyed reading your post...Nash has been doing this for Amare and Marion for three years now. It's pretty impressive...

2001: Lakers over Spurs 4-0 in Western Conference Finals
2002: Lakers over Spurs 4-1 in Western Conference Semi Finals
2003: Spurs over Lakers 4-2 in Western Conference Semi Finals
2004: Lakers over Spurs 4-2 in Western Conference Semi Finals

2002 was the only time they held Shaq under 30pts per game for the series. Lakers did not lose in the West Finals in the Phil Jackson Era. Just thought I would let you know.
