Traded to Mets according to Gambo. Doesn't know specific details. This is great news. Now we can resign Byrnes and bring up the youth at the same time.

Wow, I wonder how much of his contract the Dbacks are paying.

Buster Only (SP?) just said on ESPN that the deal was only "85% done" and how much the of Greens contract they would pay was a sticking point.

Buster Olney. This is all coming form Gambo... I know, I know- he's full of crap half the time. However, he started by saying he just got informed by a Dbacks official that the trade would get done today but didn't know when. He went to break, came back and said it was official and that Green was cleaning out his locker and saying bye to his teamates. He's waiting on details of the trade

He's saying we had to pay half of next years salary ($4.75 Mill) plus all of the buyout ($2 mill). Should be a total of around $6.75 million to get rid of Green. Better then the whole contract

Any news on who the minor leaguer is?

I'm assuming, key word assuming, minor league LHP Evan MacLane. His name has circulated around this trade (according to WFAN in New York). I know the Dbacks have interest in Bannister but that is unlikely.

Courtesy of poster Boondockdrunk-

Evan was the #30 prospect in a weak Mets organization and does not seem like a major leaguer. His fastball sits around the mid-80s and touches 87. He has a good change-up and pinpoint control but gives up too many hits. He seems like a career Triple-A player.

NEW YORK - Outfielder Shawn Green was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, giving the NL East leaders one more big bat as they gear up for the postseason.

Two team officials familiar with the trade confirmed the deal to The Associated Press. They spoke on condition on anonymity because the trade had not been officially announced.

Ahhh, thanks for the correct spelling, I wasn't sure.

Anyway, Im glad we've gotten rid of Green. Now Quentin can play everyday, and so can CoJack. I just hope whatever pitcher the Dbacks got in return can do something in the majors.

By "big bat" I guess they mean slap-hitting corner OF who strikes out too much and plays poor defense.

Exactly! I'm sick of all these people who say he plays great defense and we should play him for that reason. He's plays such a lazy RF and Quentin as impressed me more IMO. He's simply a shell of what he used to be. He only hits for decent average and has a good arm. That's it.

Great move! High fives all around!! :clapping:

Now if Melvin follows through on his claim to give Drew most of the starts once Counsell comes back, we can have some fun down the stretch no matter how this turns out.

Fantasy lineup time!

SS Drew - L
CF Byrnes - R
LF Gonzalez - L
C Estrada - S
RF Quentin - R
3B Tracy - L
1B Jackson - R
2B Hudson - S

Go Snakes!

It's official. The minor league pitcher we got is Evan Maclane. He's a 6'2, 185 soft throwing lefty. I just talked to a friend living in NY who is a huge Mets fan and he said he's a Greg Maddux type guy. Never be better then a #4 or #5 starter

NEW YORK -- Outfielder Shawn Green was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, giving the NL East leaders one more big bat as they gear up for the postseason.
The Diamondbacks sent the 33-year-old Green and slightly more than $6.3 million to the Mets for Triple-A pitcher Evan MacLane, a 23-year-old left-hander.
Green, who is owed about $12.75 million for the rest of his contract, reported to the ballpark for the Diamondbacks' game Tuesday night at San Francisco but only stayed about 10 minutes. He was seen waving to Giants manager Felipe Alou as he left the stadium.
"I'm definitely excited for the opportunity," Green said, speaking from San Francisco International Airport. "I really like the Mets' chances to go to the postseason and have a chance at the World Series."
Green, who waived his no-trade clause, was hitting .283 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI this season. The two-time All-Star once hit four homers in a game and has four seasons of at least 100 RBI. He expects to join the Mets as soon as Wednesday.
"I think for Shawn and everybody it's a relief that it's over," Arizona outfielder Luis Gonzalez said. "It's been kind of lingering a little bit. I'm sure it weighed on him. He's an established major-league player. It's a good opportunity for him. He has a chance to be in the playoffs. I'm happy for him. I called him right after I got here and found out."
Arizona activated Craig Counsell from the 15-day disabled list to take Green's roster spot. The infielder had been out since July 15 with a broken right rib.
The Mets went into Tuesday night's game against St. Louis with the best record in the league and a 13½-game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East. Asked before the game whether a trade for Green was near, Mets general manager Omar Minaya said he did not comment on players belonging to other teams.
While the Mets have a dynamic leadoff hitter in Jose Reyes and a strong middle of the order with Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado and David Wright, they were looking for more production in their corner outfield spots.
Oft-injured left fielder Cliff Floyd is on the disabled list for the second time this season and rookie Lastings Milledge has struggled in right field despite showing signs of pop and speed. Utilityman Endy Chavez has played beyond expectations in the outfield.
"Had I played my whole career and never played in New York, I always would have wondered what it was like," said Green, whose wife and family are all for the move. "We feel we're up for an adventure. At this stage in my career, it's a perfect fit."
Under Minaya, the Mets have spent millions trying to assemble their first World Series championship team since 1986. And Green, for sure, is an expensive addition.
Green is owed just under $1.75 million from his $8 million this year and has a salary of $9.5 million next year. His contract calls for a $10 million club option in 2008 with a $2 million buyout.
New York will receive $500,000 this year and most of the remainder Arizona owes next season.
For Arizona, dealing Green allows general manager Josh Byrnes more flexibility as he plans the 2007 roster.
"We got some financial relief in this deal that will help us with spending power in 2007," Byrnes said. "This one has been lingering for a while. Everyone has been able to conceptualize him going to the Mets. ... We create more playing opportunities for our young guys who we believe in."
The Diamondbacks began the day four games behind Los Angeles in the NL West. Rookie Carlos Quentin has played well in right field since being called up by Arizona.
Manager Bob Melvin was eager to move forward now that the swap was finally official, though he acknowledged how much the Diamondbacks would miss Green not only on the field but also as a positive clubhouse presence.
"We're happy for him that he's going to a place he wants to be," Melvin said. "It's good for everybody, and we're not going to have that distraction around it."
To clear a roster spot, the Mets designated outfielder Victor Diaz for assignment.

And Quentin responds with a throwing error responsible for one, maybe two runs tonight. Great timing. At least one more path is clear for youth next season. It seems like the DBacks are following the Suns in paying to get rid of players that they shouldn't have picked up in the first place.

He shouldn't have made the throw, but it looked like it was right on the money. Tracy probably should have come up with it.

Tracy's a horrible defender but he couldn't have caught that ball. Quentin threw a laser from very shallow RF and it was placed inside the runner right where Tracy had no shot at it. If the runner was 3-4 feet further towards 2nd, Tracy could have caught it. Part of the learning experience for Q

I'm sorry but Tracy has to come off the bag on that play to prevent it from skipping past him. The throw was online but had no chance to get the runner so Tracy should step off the bag.
I think that MacLane in this deal is going to suprise some people. Soft tosing lefties can be solid pitchers in the bigs and he has a sub 4 era which would make it one of the better ERA's on the Sidewinders right now. Don't be surprised if he is a solid guy eventually in the Dbacks rotation.

"MacLane, 23, signed as a 25th-round pick from Feather River (Calif.) CC in 2003. He doesn't throw hard, usually working in the mid-80s with his fastball, but he has advanced to Triple-A on the basis of his command and his changeup. In 26 starts between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Norfolk this year, he has gone 12-9, 4.02. He doesn't miss a lot of bats, as evidenced by his 92-37 K-BB ratio, .281 opponent average and 15 homers allowed in 154 innings."

That's a skewed stat. You have to take into consideration the fact that Tucson is extremely hitter-friendly while Norfolk is quite the opposite. I'm not expecting too much from Maclane, nor should I considering the guy we gave up for him was way past his prime and made superstar money.

Hope he proves me wrong though.

Either way this trade wont hurt, it might just fall off the radar. Maybe Maclane will be great. Espo, keep an eye out for us....
