I've read everything Stephen Hunter has written. I just can't see Wahlberg as Bob Lee Swagger.

Mark Wahlberg has signed on to topline and Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is on board to direct the political thriller Shooter for Paramount Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Stephen Hunter's novel "Point of Impact," published by Bantam Books in 1993, the story centers on an ace marksman -- living in self-exile in the Arkansas wilderness after causing the death of an innocent person -- who is persuaded by his former associates that they need his help to prevent an assassination. Subsequently double-crossed and framed for the presidential assassination he was trying to prevent, he is forced to go on the run while trying to track down the real killer and discover the truth about who betrayed him.

Jonathan Lemkin wrote the screenplay. The studio is eyeing a June start date for the di Bonaventura Pictures production. Lorenzo di Bonaventura previously produced the Wahlberg-starrer Four Brothers.

Fuqua was attached to direct By Any Means Necessary, another di Bonaventura-produced thriller for Paramount. That project appears to be on the back burner now that Shooter has been fast-tracked.

I recently watched this one. I thought it was a really good movie, a bit better than I was expecting. It reminded me a little of Commando during the house invasion scene.

He's no Bob Lee Swagger. :bang:

Well, it could have been worse. Keanu Reeves was the original choice. I thought Marky did a nice job and is actually becoming one of my favorite actors.

I enjoyed this movie. My wife is right though, it was way to long.

That's pretty much what I thought. A lot of plot holes, but it didn't matter. It was satisfying in a good-guy-gets-the-bad-guys kinda way.

That was my take as well. Not the greatest movie, but it was worth the (free) purchase.

I've been flying more lately and picked some some DVD movies from the clearance bin. This was one of them.

Completely unrealistic, but lots of shootings and 'splosions and it easily helped kill a boring 2 1/2 hour flight. Agree, mindless fun.
