It's not going to be that much:

The option pays players taken in the first 10 picks the transition tag—average salary of the top 10 earning players at the position—while players picked between picks 11-32 get the average of the 25 highest paid players at their position except for the first three. It's not chump change, but it's not the open market with the chance for a huge upfront guarantee either.

Floyd was taken 13th overall. It'll probably be in the $6M - $8M range, though.

Chopper made the argument that it would make sense to trade Floyd now if there's no chance that they're going to extend him. Larry's additional year could cost us the draft choice we used (in part) to replace him.

When I take the 25 highest except for the top three.. their cap # for 2016 and average it...

$8,991,057.76

So $9M... might be a bit much for Floyd even for one year to work out a deal.

I voted no, but only because I'm not educated on what he will make, and I'm assuming it's more like that 9 million number above.

I think he's very talented, but I don't think he's what BA wants. That's the only reason I wouldn't do it. Neither Fitz or Floyd has that vertical speed.

I think Floyd is a good player and I'd hate to see us lose a young talent like him. Arians mentioned a couple weeks ago that he thinks Floyd was hurt the most by the constant changing of QBs last year. I did find it interesting that the Cardinals brought Brashad Perriman in for a visit. $9 million, if that's accurate, is a bit heavy for his production. I still think we haven't seen even close to his best and I'd like to see him here long term.

It's a tough call.

Seriously though, if the cards were considering not keeping him, this is a year to get a dynamic WR to replace him.....Dorsett or Locket in the 3rd or 4th rounds? Or if 1 of the top 4 should fall to us in the 1st and no one of need and value are there when we pick.

That's the line of thinking that gets teams drafting in the top 10 every year. I prefer adding to the existing talent instead of recycling talent with high draft choices.

If we let Floyd leave, Patrick Peterson will be the only 1st round pick we've given a second contract since Larry Fitzgerald. It's stunning the way the Cards failed to draft NFL players or failed to develop and retain their 1st round talent--and still remain competitive.

Technically, the old regime did give Levi Brown a second contract but he didn't make through year two of that deal. He was adequate when the NFC West was a very weak division, but once San Francisco, and especially Seattle, starting improving dramatically on defense and his play did not, the new regime cut ties and he remains out of the league to this day.

Either they select an injury-prone underachiever like Beanie Wells or can't get the second deal done - see Antrel Rolle.

If we attribute it all to a Fitz decline, and we expected him to decline this rapidly, then both of his last two contract were a HUGE mistake. Don't get me wrong, I still love Fitz, but it's obvious there is a double standard between our expectations for Fitz and Floyd. I think reality is somewhere in the middle. We make too many excuses for Fitz, but don't give Floyd any benefit of the doubt.
