Sideways

Plot summary: SIDEWAYS tells the story of Miles (Paul Giamatti), a failed novelist, and his soon-to-be married friend Jack (Thomas Haden Church), a washed-up actor. To salute the remains of their youth, the two men take one last road trip in the week before Jack’s wedding. A serious wine enthusiast, Miles is determined to educate his friend on the region’s beloved Pinot Noir wines before the week is out. Jack indulges his best friend’s passion for the grape but is mainly interested in living his last week of bachelorhood to the hilt. Trouble ensues with wine and women (played by Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh) and the duo comes to some profound realizations as they come to terms with maturity.

Cast: Paul Giamatti, Sandra Oh, Virginia Madsen, Thomas Haden Church.

We saw this today, really enjoyed it...

The stuff in there about wine tasting is pretty cool...very interesting hobby...

Neat story too, I really like movies like this that people miss out on...they aren't the mainstream type, and most people skip them...but they are some of the best movies you'll ever see.

It's up for a Golden Globe, and Paul Giamatti is up for the Best Actor Golden Globe...I'd like to see him win someday.

Side Ways...

You know I must be really bad at this searching thing because I could not find a previous post on this movie, and yet I know there has to be one... If so could you please merge this with that one...

Watched it this weekend and even though it was a little slow I found it very entertaining... Very enjoyable... Two Thumbs up from both my wife, and myself...

Thanks for merging... I wish I could search more efficiently... Must be doing something incorrect...

Thanks again...

I thought it was just okay. I may have liked it better if I didn't go into it with such sky-high expectations.

I know. I know. I am one of only three people I know who hated it.

The fact that you know 2 others who hated it surprises me as well :)

Yeah, maybe there was hype...but come on, Paul Giamati was awesome...

The wine-tasting scenes were great!

I liked Giamati but the story had too many flaws for me. I liked Giamati better in American Splendor.

I liked it, but it was not Oscar Worthy. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind should have had the best picture nomination that Sideways got, IMO.

Same here. It was okay. Didn't think it deserved a nomination.

Loved this flick. Very understated and mild mannered, subtle humor. Refreshing in this Farrelly brothers dominated age of comedies. The drinking and dialing scene was awesome!
