Owings looking good so far, I'd love to see him up pitching at Chase next year. If the Dbacks could sign one big FA pitcher, and keep Batista and Hernandez, I think Owings wouldnt be a bad option at the back of the rotation. Webb-FA Pitcher- Livan- Miggy-Owings.

5-2 final -- Sidewinders win. OK, I'm in on the Chip Hale kool-aid party. Definitely on the Micah Owens bandwagon, but I was thrilled when we drafted him.

Tomorrow they call up Robby Hammock and Scott Hairston.

My prediction -- if Robby plays decently and gets to ST, they'll make him the back-up utility player -- he plays every position except pitcher, hits decently and with a little power, and as a legit back-up catcher, he's way over guys like Andy Green.

I'm a huge Chip Hale fan since he played at the UofA but unless the Diamondbacks bring him up next year as one of the coaches, I think Arizona is going to lose him.

What's Hale's personality like as a manager? I like his record and reputation but know very little about him otherwise.

He is an intense manager who takes his job very seriously and is always looking for a way to get better. He is a good guy that works hard but isn't affraid to tell it like it is and be hard on a guy if its necessary.

Well then I think he should be promoted to the big leagues along with the rest of the youngsters and demote Melvin to Tucson. This guy seems to get the most out of his players not to mention he is familiar with most of our young guys. I'll say it right now: Chip Hale in '07!

One of the coaches? He should be promoted to D'backs Manager as soon as the '06 season ends.

Melvin needs to go. He can't be demoted and be effective within this organization.

He's shown his leadership ability in two Major League managerial assignments now as weak-to-none. At best, he's a lifetime Bench Coach to a spirited Manager.

Bob Melvin is not a leader. And he's not an effective spokeman to the Press.

Are you-all familiar with The Peter Principle, which came out decades ago?
In a heirarchy, every employee rises to his level of incompetence.
Bob "Butthead" Melvin has found his. The Diamondbacks settled on him after the Wally Backman fiasco. It's time to move on.

There will be too many promising young players on the team next year whose careers Melvin could destroy, just as he's doing with Chad Tracy.

Just as he and Bob Brenley did back when he was his Bench Coach, with their nobody-knows-their-roles sporadic batting orders every day.
