Andrey Silnov of Russia has won the men's high jump at the Beijing Olympics. Silnov cleared 2.36 meters (7 feet, 83/4 inches) without a miss Tuesday to secure the gold, then failed three times at 2.42 (7-111/4). Britain's Germaine Mason picked up silver at 2.34 meters (7-8). Mason competed for Jamaica until 2006 and still holds the national record in the Caribbean nation.
