Chopper, you can add me to your Tyler Wilson bandwagon list.
LOL I thought I would be on the list too! I was talking up Wilson last offseason.

John H is the O-G Tyler Wilson backer. No one mentioned him before John H did.

Since when ?

Since we saw 8 games of Batiste starting at LT. Pass blocking isn't the only thing an OT does; Levi Brown is a way above average run blocker. So at least half of the game, Levi Brown is very good at.

I agree with the overall premise of the thread that Keroauc is stating. With Levi Brown coming back, Massie and Potter getting experience, the offensive line will get better next season if we do nothing. What the Cardinals can't afford is another stretch of 5 years where they spend no real draft capital on the offensive line. The absolutely must draft another player or two, preferably in rounds 2-3, to build with this group. Blowing up the offensive line will cause more problems than it will solve since offensive lines thrive on consistency.

I don't think the Cardinals have the option of signing a front line LT in free agency, and QB is such a premium position that Cardinals should look to fill QB in the first round over drafting a LT. What I hope happens, is that Potter becomes a pleasant surprise and takes the job and runs with it, but realistically we can expect that at least he should be able to compete for the LT job in camp.

We have the skill position players; I absolutely agree that we likely have to draft a RB this year and jettison either Wells or Williams. I could love to see Giovanni Bernard in Cardinal red, though he is very likely gone before the third round.

Fitz, Roberts, Floyd, and Housler are VERY good options to throw to. As maligned as Early Doucet is around here, he's still better than 90% of 3rd or 4th string players, though I would cut him loose this offseason since all he's likely to do now is limit the development of younger better players.

IMO the most underrated player on the team right now is Andre Roberts. I just can't shake the thought that he would be putting 100 yards a game right now if he had a good QB throwing the ball. His 40 yard catch against the Packers was textbook, and with a better throw he would've easily scored.

On a sidenote, at least going to Afghanistan isn't going to make me miss out on a good season from the Cardinals like I thought over a month ago. :(

Well maybe if you're talking about 3rd or 4th string offensive linemen or Defensive Backs. Every team in the NFL has 2-3-4 Early Doucets on their roster. We could easily replace the 17 yards a game he manages. The Browns have 10 guys who have more yards per game than Dropcet. I'd trade him right now for a guy I liked pre draft, Josh Cooper, of the Browns.

I like Roberts too, have him on a fantasy team. My one concern is like Skelton he's getting a lot of his production in the 4th quarter of games we're 10-14 points behind in.

over 40% of his yards are in the 4th Q and 4 of his 5 TD's are too. I think he is able to get open early we just don't have a QB who can get him the ball.

IF Floyd keeps up his play of late we're pretty set at WR. We aren't close to set at OL but at this point no sense beating that to death.

The Cards have scored exactly ONE Touchdown in the first quarter this season!

In fact the Cards have only scored ONE Touchdown in the first quarter in their last 23 games!

The Bills have to have a worse record than us to get ahead of us, because they beat us head-to-head, and they'll likely have an easier schedule.

Actually the head-to-head result doesn't factor into draft order, and the easier schedule would actually give them a leg up. If teams in opposite conferences finish with identical records, all that matters is strength of schedule, then a coin flip.

Ok.

By that logic Nate Potter is a solid LT, cause in comparison to Batiste he is.

So far, I have been proven that Levi Brown is an adequate LT cause everyone else sucks more than we all thought. At least that is logic being given.

Not saying it is not valid, but I am saying that is the most back-assward way to "improve" a position.

....and if I here one more post about how good a run blocker Levi Brown is compared to his adequate pass blocking I am going back to putting him at guard. :D

What good does it do to have a Left Tackle who is weak at pass blocking but a good run blocker on a team that never runs the ball?

That shouldn't take THAT long. www.profootball-reference.com lists the starters for every team in the NFL.

You said that Levi Brown played well when he had a good LG next to him? Are you saying Colledge is an adequate left guard?

It didn't take all day, but you have to go to each team, and then click on that team, and then click on "Starters and Rosters". For 25 teams, that's a pretty time-consuming process.

Especially when you're trying to make it look like you're working.

Early Doucet doesn't make or break our roster, but his spot might be in trouble because he makes more than the vet min. I would love to draft or acquire a vertical threat to put into our offense.

Yep we're terrible at it again.

Part of it is we always defer if we win the cointoss but the main thing is we just suck in the first Q.

I'm sorry, I am not OK with starting ANY rookie QB when the reality is our time with Horton as DC may be limited.

WHOOAH! He makes smores! :p

But seriously, I do agree that we should try and bring in a real speedster.

I'd love to see the draft go like this:

1. QB, Tyler Wilson
2. BPA OL/OLB
3. BPA OL/OLB/CB
4. RB/WR
5. RB/WR

What I mean by the amalgamation above is that I would like to draft a QB, OL, OLB, RB, and WR, but I don't want to sacrifice BPA for need. If we walked away with a QB and OL in rounds 1 and 2, then I would look at OLB or CB....or RB or speed WR. :D

My point is that even when you perceive that a player isn't very good and that there is no possibility of a downgrade, sometimes there is.

Levi Brown gave up more pressure than almost any LT over the course of the past 3 or 4 seasons. Batiste is giving up likely 3 seasons worth of Levi pressure. He's that bad.

We know what we're going to get from Levi Brown, and I'd rather take that with a huge upgrade at QB than to not upgrade QB and draft a good LT. John Skelton is awful bro. He's terrible. We can't win with him, and Kolb's contract and injury woes make him not worth it as well.

Just because we struck out on Matt Leinart doesn't mean that this team should stop trying to draft the QB position in the first round. Statistically speaking, it's by far the best round to draft a QB.

My darkhorse QB for this team is Mike Glennon. Dude is big, makes every throw, and can win at NC State. He's not a speed merchant (he's Ryan Mallet-esque), but he moves well in the pocket and can throw well on the run. He's better than John Skelton right now as a college senior.

On very rare occasions a team like the Cardinals pick up a Kurt Warner and thrive, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery for the most part. We need to keep drafting at the QB position high, till we find our guy. The only way you get a good QB for the long haul is the draft. We need a QB, and we will be close enough to get one in the draft with our record it seems. Best possible player is rather skewed to me when you bring the QB position into consideration because it is so dang important. An average but starting quality QB in the NFL to me trumps studs at other positions, especially when your team does not have a QB you can depend on, be it talent or staying healthy. Wilson may be no better than Kolb talent wise, but he may be more durable.

If he is decent why does he play so bad, so consistently?

I am not going off on a crazy situation here either. He is regarded as a horrible LT, and I have a huge majority of analysis, fans, football guys, coaches, etc., etc., backing me up on that statement.

Since when ?

Sorry, not buying what you are selling here K9. If the Cardinals put Levi Brown at LT again, then this madness starts all over again. This zombie opinion that Levi Brown, because of 8 games he played "well" and I guess the loss of memory on how poorly he has played in the past, is all of a sudden not the worst rated LT in the last 3 to 4 years of football, needs its own arrow in the head. Dare I say, you have been comprised my Darren Urban! j/k.

I love how Levi Brown is this awesome run blocker that can't play guard cause he is too slow, yet he is quick and nimble enough to play LT ?

This zombie is thinking that Levi Brown could solidify the interior line, and along with Massie on the right side could actually, :shocker:, provide a push on the line is going to stay strong regardless of good writing and funny quips. PLENTY of drafted, never played OG, offensive tackles that went on to play guard, and well. It is not lunacy to say so.

Yet, it doesn't matter. The easy way for the Cardinals to go, is to enter next year with:

LT: Levi Brown
LG: Daryn Colledge
OC: Lyle Sendlein
RG: Adam Snyder
RT: Bobby Massie

and you know what ? That is what they are going to do, and that line is going to suck. And all the Tyler Wilson's and great weapons in the world are not going to cover it up. How do I know? I have seen that show before, and it sucked.
Awesome post Rugby & I completely agree!

Resigning a an average player at LT after you cut him, IMO just shows the lack of commitment to improving one of the worst Olines in the NFL! :bang:

Levi Brown is one of the worst LTs in the NFL & will continue to be when he returns! IMO You can't hide an inferior player at QB, CB, edge rusher or LT in the NFL.

Yeah... You pay a five-year price on a 1st round QB who doesn't work out. We've been lucky that only Denny has paid the price for Leinart's washing out; it's time to go back to the well. The Dolphins waited too long to go back to the draft well at the quarterback position; now they have, and the results have been promising so far.

Ugh... Mike Glennon. 56.9% completions on the season, 4 INTs versus Tennessee in the opener. 48.9% completions versus the mighty Terrapins of Maryland. 1 TD, 3 INTs versus Virginia last week.

Sounds like the perfect Ken Whisenhunt quarterback.

Tyler Wilson 2013!

We fans have sure paid the price for Leinart washing out. That 3-15 stretch was really enjoyable as is the current 5 game losing streak.

That's fair and true. But the Cards and their fans are better off maintaining the coaching staff through these last three largely miserable seasons than going through a coaching staff (or two) and a complete re-build.

Can you imagine where this team would be if the Cards had fired Whis following the 2010 debacle and hired a 4-3 defense coach?

Have to agree. In the Steve Keim thread I talked about how few players we have left from the 2005-2008 drafts. Hiring another coach just starts that carousel of players all over again. And that has been one of if not the biggest problem the Cards have had for the last 35 years. A different head coach every 3.5 years.

Tyler Wilson 2013!

But against UNC alone, Glennon's receivers dropped 10 passes (TEN!).

Wilson has dropped some REAL stinkers himself this year.

Again, I like Wilson the most, but if you watch some film, Glennon has looked pretty good for the most part.

You have to remember, even Warner had 4 INT games...
