Hahaha.. Now paranoia is setting in..

Mike Singletary smells a rat

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 16, 2010 5:07 PM ET

49ers coach Mike Singletary won't spent time trying to find out who talked to Yahoo! Sports about the team's playcalling problems.

"I don't want to deal with a rat," Singletary said. "I don't want to spend my time trying to find out who said this, who did that. The article is not factual, No. 1. Number 2, I don't want to spend my time trying to find a rat. In time, the smell will come. If the rat is in the building, it will show but I'm not going to go try and find it."

I love how the head coach is fielding questions and actually giving straight foward answers about a "rat".. lmfao.. Shouldnt they be discussing and devoting more time to things like football? Nope.. Gotta give this rat thing some time.. hahaha

Sounds like buddy ryan calling Steve Beuerlein a cancer in the press. Buddy's tenure was short and fiery too, just like Singletary's will be.

Its funny how yall refer to the darkside. Singletary was one of my biggest idols growing up. Then he went to the (in my world) darkside aka Frisco. I still think he was the man , with eyeballs that could only be rivaled by Bruce Lee. But I see troubles in Frisco.

Saying there is a rat is an admission of truth, otherwise there wouldn't be a rat.

Hopefully the Saints crush them for the 0-2 start.

Exactly, if it wasn't true he'd be calling him a liar not a rat.

Mike you were a great player but your rah-rah nonsense doesn't work on millionaires who do this for a living. These guys are pros and they expect to be coached accordingly, you know, by a coach with something else to say besides cliches about hurting people and taking their manhood and pants dropping speaches about having a bigger "you know what" than the other guy. Sadly this guy still thinks it's 1985 and he's trying to coach like Buddy Ryan.

All this just makes one appreciate Whiz even more (if that's possible).

For the disagreements I've had with him recently...... I agree.

This whole thing is hilarious. Many of us posters have been predicting it for a few years now, I love it.

I love the calm assertiveness he shows in public.

Yet, a few times last week, Whiz looked like he was going to kill somebody.

This is perfectly normal run of the mill stuff for an elite team destined for greatness.. ahahaha.. Singletary is just following many of the great men before him that have.. Ugh haha.. Nevermind..

Smith says the Yahoo story is "false" and he said it was humorous just how false it was. Singletary said it was not factual.

As others said why say rat if you say the story is false. One of the local reporters said in his opinion there's simply too much detail in the story for it to have been pulled out of thin air by Cole. He said even if it's not true, someone told Cole what he wrote and spent the time to give him that level of detail so it still indicates there's a problem if someone took the time to craft such a lie.

The whole thing is funny if nothing else.

Watch the interview and the guy was rude. We don't have to prove anything? Hey Mike you guys have a losing record last year you guys have a lot to prove. He reminds of Coach Mac with his rah rah, great player clueless as a coach.

I'm pretty sure the 49ers were 8-8 last year?

I think that Singletary still has a winning record as a head coach, because the 49ers ran off some wins after he took over in 2008.

Random thing i noticed but didnt want to create a new thread...

Niners do not get as much flack for not drafting Aaron Rodgers and the Cardinals do for not drafting Adrian Peterson.

Imagine how much better the division would be if we substituted Alex Smith with Rodgers and Hightower with Beanie.

Haha it would be crazy.

I think that's because Rodgers fell so far on draft day. If he'd gone top 5 they'd probably get more heat but people are figuring 2/3 of the teams in the NFL(including us) passed on Aaron Rodgers that year too?

I said it at the time, Rodgers was the better guy, I think SF outsmarted themselves they bought into the Tedford QB's suck stuff and forgot that they're not all the same.

It does seem they are unravelling fast .... there is no leadership on that team and as soon as adversity hit on sunday they buckled hard and all the pre-game posturing quickly turned to finger pointing and whining

not sure if any of you saw it, but here is how they came onto the field

You must be registered for see images

there was a lot of smirking, snearing and laughing going on .... by the end there was a lot of yelling at each other

nate clements went on NFL radio and said the only reason seattle won is because they used tricky formations and plays ....... if you watched the game you would see that such "trickery" was limited to pump fakes and double moves .... they used tempo as well .... 3 times seattle tried to disguise their formation and they only gained 5 yards total on those plays ... no onside kicks, no fake kicks, no wildcat, no flea flickers, no half back option passes ..... really nothing tricky, just sounds like nate admitting they were unprepared and outcoached

singletary was quick to throw smith under the bus with regards to the headset issues ..... then it comes out that Raye doesn't really know the names of the plays and that causes a delay ....... their time management was horrible

and they made zero adjustments .... mike just sat there and grinned like a fool all game

he's way over his head as a coach - i doubt he has the organizational skills to manage his players, coordinators and all the little detail work that goes into being a head coach

they have enough players on that team where they could still be solid .... but it looks like all their question marks are starting to manifest as well (QB play, offensive line, lack of individual pass rusher, coaching, etc)

instead of regrouping and preparing for a big game against a good team they are still reeling a little bit and going into melt down mode

I really don't get it ........ i think this team relies too much on emotional swings and rides momentum .......... at the end I don't see that getting any team above .500 and leaving them anything more than emotional exhausted as the season wears on
