Hey guys,

I am in the middle of a site redesign. Basically, we're going to take the old frontpage and convert it to a blog style format.

The reasons behind this:

- The frontpage is pretty much only used for articles and stories.
- We don't really post breaking news much, it's mostly commentary articles, which are basically blogs.
- It brings ASFN into the here and now, where blogs are the new way to run commentary websites.

So anyways, I've started on this new site and I wanted to get a few of you to test it out and give me feedback. Still a lot being worked on, as far as theme and look and feel.

I've moved over 3 old stories, so you guys could comment on them if you wish, or just check it out and see how it looks.

Thanks,

Mike

me likey. Looks very cool--much more 'modern' so to speak. Keep it up! How long do you expect it to take to complete?

I'm hoping it can be up and running tomorrow...

I figure it will be an ongoing thing, with editing and changing the theme here and there.

I just have to get all the writers and authors on board with logins and stuff, so they can post articles.

Cool thing is that it can be broken down into Categories for each team...so users can make each Category their homepage or whatever.

Anyways...thanks for the feedback guys!

Looks good, Mike.

Is there any way to get the name of the author at the top of the entry instead of at the bottom? I kind of like to know who wrote something before diving into the entry.

Will be something I need to check into, yes.

Mike, is there any way to add a list of the most recently posted articles somewhere near the top of the main page?

Weird...that doesn't show up for me either in IE, but it does in Firefox.

Blah, I hate browsers...

Im gonna be in the minority. I think it sucks. You dont have to be a "news site" to have a more profesional looking appearance. Much harder to find what you are looking for.

What are you trying to find? I mean, all we have are three things:

Stories, the forum and the chat room.

Can you clarify a bit more, Shane? If you are talking about the look-and-feel design, this appears to still be under construction and Mike is making improvements daily. It can be changed to whatever. If you have suggestions, I'm sure he would be open to listen to them instead of saying "it sucks".

And blogs aren't news, they are opinion. And the engine behind it gives several advantages. The approved authors can post articles in real time, there are in-line comments, archives, and a trackback feature that hopefully may be used by other websites to link back to here.
