Fans will notice big changes in the J.L. Walkup Skydome. The numerous wood panel advertising signs have been replaced by newly painted white walls and large rotating tri-vision panels. Scoreboards that were originally installed when the Skydome was constructed nearly 30 years ago were removed to make room for a state-of-the-art video and scoreboard system. NAU has partnered with Virtu Development Group, based in Scottsdale, to give the Skydome a modern look. The athletic department and Virtu will jointly sell sponsorship packages with the responsibility of debt service, maintenance and operation resting with Virtu. The project will be completed with all funding coming from private sources and sponsorships. A large financial commitment has been made by Pepsi Bottling Company and the Summit Center, both Flagstaff-based companies.
