Just read this over on the AZ-STA site:

http://www.az-sta.com/azsta/pdf_fil...tadium Preparation begins for Fiesta Bowl.pdf

Apparently, the field crew is replacing the worn-out portions of the turf, and the stadium crew is getting the extra (Extravaganza) seating in place as well.

I would love to see pics of the extra seating - if any of you guys are in there between now and the Fiesta Bowl.

Oh, and they're apparently going to replace the turf again before the BCS Championship Game...

Were there a bunch of high school games, or other sports played on the field this year?
Looked pretty beat for a field that averages 1 game every two weeks or so.

The state high school championships were played there, so over the last 2-3 weeks there have been 2 cardinals home games, + 4-6 high school games played on it.

They're getting it ready for THE Ohio State University Nat'l championship game. I'm sure they don't want a worn out, brown field on display for the nation to see come Jan 8.

What I was refering to is that with the layer that is going to be laid down in between the Fiesta Bowl and the BCS championship (1 week) it seems like that is too short of a time to be playing the championship on. I am wondering if the sod will tear loose during the BCS championship game since it has only been laid down a week. It would make more sense to leave the Fiesta sod in place for the BCS game. That turf would be more established and the roots wouldn't be new and as tender perhaps. Also after the Fiesta couldn't they just water and fertilize it and let it get good sun for a week to please the almighty TV Network? Wouldn't that seem to be enough to repair any damage from the Fiesta game?

1 week doesn't seem like enough time but they must know. I know OSU went through 3 natural grass turfs this year and they only played 8 games on it. One field was replaced because the footing was very bad and that field had 2 weeks to set in. I'm pretty sure there is a different type of grass that grows in Arizona than Columbus so maybe the turf out there is sturdier and more plush.

Yeah they must know Cbus. Not only sturdier and more plush but Phoenix/Tempe probably enjoy a turf growing seaon year round too.

The field will probably take as much of a beating from the band championships as from a game.
Why dont they roll out artificail turf on the concrete for the bands to save the turf?
