CONSTANTINE — Meah Evans believes she fell in love with the game of volleyball a handful of years ago. She was the manager of the middle school volleyball team in Constantine and figures those were the moments that helped build her passion for the sport.
That passion ultimately earned her a strong high school career. It will still remain a big part of her life at the next level with Evans signing on to continue her academic and volleyball careers with Southwestern Michigan College. The Roadrunner program is one that is back to competition after some years away, this upcoming season will be the fourth for SMC returning to match play.
Evans said during her campus visit to SMC, she felt comfortable with her surroundings and enjoyed her time spent with the team.

"The chemistry was something special," Evans said. "I like I know where I'm going, honestly, I think SMC is a perfect fit."
SMC has continued to improve under head coach Jenny Nate, this past year the Roadrunners piled up 22 victories. Evans said she wants to be a part of a program that is moving in the right direction. When she was younger, she was not sure playing in college was a possibility, but eventually it became a goal.
"I don't think I figured I was going to play in college until my freshman year," Evans recalled. "I even thought it could be a goal, it was something I wanted to achieve."
Speaking of achievements, Evans surpassed the 1,000-assist plateau in a match earlier this season for the Falcons. It was an accomplishment which occurred in the same match as her teammate Jozee Buglione reaching 600 career kills in a victory over Coloma.
The duo helped lead Constantine to a record of 34-4-2 this past year. Head coach Tiffany Lewis said she was proud of what her team was able to get done this season. She believes Evans should have no problems adjusting to the collegiate volleyball life, either.
"She's a smart player, I think SMC is a good two-year school that will be a positive option for her," Lewis said of Evans. "Good fit for Meah. She's smart, she's a setter who moves the ball around really well. She just makes things look effortless."
When it comes to the classroom, Evans said she plans to study pre-med but eventually head into the optometry division. She was pointed in that direction, she said, after her father had Lasik surgery a few years go. Evans learned about the procedure and started doing research in the optometry division of medicine and felt like it was a fun option.
Once she's done with her senior year, Evans will move on to SMC so start a new chapter. She will miss her teammates and classmates, but she's thankful for those bonds created during her time growing up. She said she's not really nervous about the next level, but kind of sad because those friendships and people she sees on a daily basis will no longer occur.
"Starting a new chapter, it's not scary but the unknown is a bit scary," she said. "But, I'm getting to do what I love. I believe my previous lessons really prepared me for college."
Evans will play softball once again this season. The Falcons should have a pretty solid group and Evans said she is looking forward to being on the diamond with her friends and teammates for one final season.
