Arizona State Athletic Director Gene Smith said Wednesday in a statement that ASU will continue to be vigilant about fans' behavior during games at Wells Fargo Arena.
Arizona coach Lute Olson was critical of the ASU student section Saturday after a Wildcats rout of the Sun Devils. Olson also pointed at the scoreboard late in the game as students broke into profane chants. Olson's remarks and gesture were called "a classless act" by ASU coach Rob Evans.
"If there were incidents on Saturday that offended anyone, I want to personally apologize," Smith said. "We do not condone or defend any bad language or behavior by any single person.
"We have made adjustments with the logistics of our arena and our student section over the past few years to try to make it a good environment for opposing fans and teams, and will continue to monitor every game to make sure Arizona State is properly represented."
