SMU has fired men's basketball coach Matt Doherty after six seasons. The Mustangs announced Doherty's dismissal Tuesday. Doherty went 13-19 this year and 80-109 in six years with SMU. Doherty is a former national coach of the year at North Carolina. He coached the Tar Heels for three years until he was pressured to resign in April 2003.
