I think one thing we have all noticed is the Cardinals draft for need and not best player available. If we don't take Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton at five then I don't see us taking a QB until maybe the third round. And that is if either Ryan Mallet or Colin Kaepernick fall that far. Something tells me that all four of these QB's will be gone and the Cards will find another QB in free agency.

1st round- OLB Von Miller 6' 3'' 246 The Cards need a passrusher so badly that I can't see them taking anybody but Miller if they don't take a QB. I think in a couple of years Miller will end up at about 260 pounds and be the monster passrusher this team has needed for years.

2nd round- OT Ben Ijalana 6' 4'' 320 Outside of QB and OLB this team needs a LT. I think the top four tackles will be off the board when we pick in round two. Ijalana is the next top tackle. He has very good feet and very long 36'' arms. This may not be the sexy pick but it is a huge need pick.

3rd round-CB Curtis Brown 6'0 185 This guy is moving up the draft. If he had run a 4.4 instead of a 4.51 at the combine he would be at the top of the second round. He showed great leaping ability (39.5'' vertical ) and great body control as well as great hands. This guy looks like the CB version of Fitz. He will give us a real third CB to go along with DRC and Toller.

4th round- ILB Nate Irving 6' 1'' 240 There are several ILB'ers that I like ( Casey Matthews, Colin McCarthy, Kelvin Sheppard ), but the one that sticks out the most to me is Irving. He plays with such intensity and fire that he gets his teammates fired up as well. He is a quick sideline to sideline player that is the best against defending the pass. He can stop the run just fine, but his ability in coverage sets him apart from the rest. The Cards need another inside backer. Any of these guys could go in the third or fourth rounds.

5th round- TE Julius Thomas 6' 5'' 246 This former basketball player has very good body control and soft hands. I really liked what I saw at the combine from this kid. I think he would be a great pick in the fifth round and would win the starting job very quickly.

6th round-A- QB Greg McElroy 6' 2'' 220 I am torn between him and Jeff Van Camp as a late round QB prospect. Camp is bigger 6'5'' 220 10 1/4'' hands and is better physically, but McElroy is a winner that is very smart ( scored a 48 on the wonderlic ). I don't think it would take very long for McElroy to play in a pinch and do a good job.Which ever one is there that's the guy I take.

6th round-B- TE Lee Smith 6' 6'' 266 Here's our blocking TE. He also has very good hands he's just not very fast. He not the kind of TE that will be a threat downfield, but the boy can block and get a catch in here and there.

I like your mock, it's alot like how I would like to see the draft play out. Agree with the 3rd to 4th round would be the spot to pick up an ILB.
If we pick up a FA QB I could see a DT taken instead of McElroy.

Nice work... but:

1. The team doesn't agree with you on the need at LT. (I see that selection as the one critical to QB needs, whether through trade under a new CBA or in this draft)

2. See no need for another developmental QB late in the draft, and would rather see us use our two six round picks to move up a round, if possible.

I thought of Phil Taylor or Marvin Austin in the second round. Taylor may sneak into the first but I think Austin will be there when we pick. Also I was thinking Cameron Heyward at that spot also. If we do pick up a DT later in the draft, Terrell McClain looked pretty good at the combine.

If we were to take a QB with our second rounder I think it would be either Ryan Mallet or Colin Kaepernick. I think both of them would take longer to develop than McElroy, but both have much higher ceilings in the long run. Mallet has the best arm and accuracy, but I get a bad vibe about him mentally. Kaepernick has the complete package, but I think it will take him a few years to develop so it sort of like pick your poison.

I totally agree about moving up in the draft. I would love for us to have two third rounders. I really like the first four rounds of the draft, after that it's seems like a total crapshoot to find somebody that turns out well. We did it with LSH, but normally those picks don't work out other than putting them on special teams.

More likely the third. Look at your own write up of Irving. He's too good to fall that far.

I do not see the OT in the 2nd round either at this point. I could see a 2nd Rd QB if we do not grab one in the 1st round or if FA actually starts before the draft and we get a vet. With the top tackles gone I think your guy Ben last to the 3rd or 4th round and would take him there if available as a BPA at a need position. I would look to pckage and trade up to the low end of the 1st round and grab Houston or Ayers. Just not liking not getting a Qb early.

Snakester, this is a good solid draft, and is well thought out. I have no problems with it at all, and would be more than happy if the Cards manage to do as well.

ORGASM! I would go crazy for this draft!

The only pick I don't like is McElroy, and even then he'll likely be a really solid backup QB.

What exactly do people see in Casey Matthews?

Yeah I'm not a big fan of him either. IMO his physical attributes will limit him to nothing more than a "solid" player at best, but most likely a fringe, backup special teams player. I never like drafting guys that I don't think have much upside.

Its kind of like going all in on a hand of black jack because the deal before the guy next to you got blackjack. Everyone assumes he will be as good as all the rest of the family.

I see a lot of mocks that want us to take Irving.. how good is he at getting off blocks? The highlight videos I've seen seem to indicate more a wilb than a silb but a guy getting off a block in traffic and taking down a ballcarrier in a cluster of linemen usually won't be highlight worthy so maybe I just haven't seen it.
