Draft Man
My favorite pick at 13 would be QB Mitch Trubisky. Him and Mahomes are my two favorite quarterbacks in this draft. As much as I would like to draft Trubisky , I think he goes top ten. He's the only QB I would take at 13 in this draft. My next favorite choice is WR Corey Davis. He started all four years in college and put up monster numbers. Davis can be a starter day one and our future number one wideout. Although I would take him at 13 I don't think the Cardinals will. Mainly because they have had good success finding receivers in later rounds. So that would also seem to keep them from drafting Mike Williams or John Ross as well. The next offensive player that I would look at would be TE OJ Howard. Great TE prospect that would create mismatches all over the field as well as being a very good blocker. I just don't see the Cards drafting him for two reasons. they just gave Jermaine Gresham that big new contract and they don't really use the tight end that much in the offense. Howard to me would be a wasted pick unless the offense was changed to feature him and I don't see BA changing his philosophy anytime soon. So, so much for the offense in the first round.
The defensive players in this draft are abundant and that's where my focus will be for this mock draft. In the first round I'm looking at two players mainly that I think should be there when the Cards draft. LB Reuben Foster and LB Haason Reddick. One of them I believe will be the pick. I'm leaning towards Foster. Most all the draft guys from the networks are saying he will still be taken in the top 20 even though he failed the drug test at the combine. I think both will be stars in this league and I would be happy with either one.
In the second round there are many players that I like, but only a few that I really think would become stars. At first I penciled in CB Adoree Jackson for us with this pick. I thought this guy takes care of two problems at once. Number two CB and a great return man. My thought was because he's still a work in progress as a CB that he would be there for us to snatch up in the second round. Well he's been getting so much love and hype by the networks that I think he will now be taken late in the first round. I then thought of two safeties that would look good in Cardinal red. Budda Baker and Jabril Peppers. Budda has also been getting a lot of love by the networks and now most have him going between picks 25-35. The news that Peppers failed his drug test at the combine (Diluted Sample) could mean that he slips to us. He was considered a late first early second round pick anyway. He is a very good return man and is in my top three picks for us in the second round. The recent news that CB Sidney Jones would be ready to play by September I think puts him in the second round now. Before I had him going in the third. He was considered a top 2 CB with Mike Mayock having him rated number one before tearing his Achilles tendon. We need a number two CB and he would fit the bill. My third top player for us in round 2 is DE Malik McDowell. Talent wise he's a top ten pick. He's the total package for a 3-4 DE. Stout against the run and can rush the passer. Losing Calais Campbell will hurt this team a lot more than people think in my opinion. It all starts up front to me. That's why I take Malik McDowell with our second pick if he's there.
In the third round there are four players that I like for us. That's why I make a trade and get two picks in the third round. I send our fourth and one of our fifth round picks to get back up into the third. If we don't take Malik McDowell in the second my favorite player would be DE Tanoh Kpassagnon. At 6-7 290 pounds its like having CC back again. Tanoh has a lot of upside as a pass rusher. Watching him on tape and doing the drills at the combine I was amazed at how athletic he was. He had 21.5 TFL last year as well as 11 sacks. I think this guy will be special and would be a perfect replacement for CC. If we don't take a CB in the first or second round I like **** Tabor or Shaquill Griffin in the third. Tabor has good size at 6'0 200 and he's a three year starter at Florida. If he hadn't run a 4.6 at the combine I think he goes second round. Griffin tested really well at the combine. At 6'1 he has good height and runs a 4.40 I think his times at the combine were 4.38 and 4.42 if I remember right. He's not ready to start day one like I think Tabor can but he has a lot of upside. We need a free safety and Marcus Williams is a good one. I really like what I saw on tape of him. If we don't get a guy like Budda Baker in the second then Williams is my guy.
Round five I like RB Donnel Pumphrey. I know he's a little guy at only 5'9 180. That being said he's the closest think to Christian McCaffrey in this draft. He broke the FBS rushing record with 6,405 yards. Last season he ran for 2,133 yards with 17 touchdowns. He's so quick and elusive and almost always beats defenders around the edge as well as in the open field. He's also an excellent receiver. I would make him my return man and change of pace runner. This guy is a threat to take it to the house any play.
Rounds 6 and 7 BPA

2. Malik McDowell DE
3. **** Tabor CB

After watching Mike Mayock's draft where Malik Hooker is still there I decided to do another mock taking him with no draft trades.
1. Malik Hooker FS
2. Sidney Jones CB
3. Tanoh Kpassagnon DE
4. Pat Elflein C
5. Gareon Conley CB
5. Donnel Pumphrey RB
6. BPA

This draft nets us the best free safety and two of the top three cornerbacks in the draft. I figure this is the spot to take a chance on Conley. If he's found innocent great. If he's not it's only a fifth rounder.
