Scenario #1: The Cardinals come out and say, "We came to the conclusion that Larry Fitzgerald and his agent have no plans on restructuring, so we made the decision to trade him for (insert picks and player name). We made the decision to resign Pace, Bryant Johnson, and keep Edgerrin James in the process. We would have had to part with all 3 otherwise."

Scenario #2: The Cardinals hang onto Fitz and his existing contract, but cut ties with Edgerrin James, lose Pace and Johnson to FA. They sign some band aids to replace Pace and Johnson and draft a LB and WR in the first two rounds of the draft.

Scenario 3 is the one we all wish for, but just for arguements sake how would you react to the first two scenarios? I love Fitz and I hate losing great players, but i think I would actually take a trade and keep our other players. I just don't have a good feeling about this. I'm not sure we need two possession receivers anyway..

I would take Fitz over keeping Edge and BJ any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

None. Becuase we used the money to re-sign BJ.

Given that situation I would expect the Cards to draft a RB in round #1, for the irony of passing on AP to take a RT and then drafting a lesser RB in a draft supposedly loaded with OT's. Then a WR in round #2.

Then I'd wake up and be sitting on metal bleachers at SDS next to Bobby Ewing with the new stadium having been nothing but a dream.

Scenario 2 is not going to happen even if we don't restructure Fitz's contract.
If the Cards were to trade Fitz to (example) the Eagles for Kevin Curtis and their @1 pick this year , we could then sign Pace, BJ, Dansby long term, and Faneca. With our 2 first round picks we could take 1 of the big 3 RB and either a corner or OLB or the burner wide receiver we seem to need.

Like it or not , we would fill a whole lot of needs with that example.

So in scenario 2 we cut Edge and don't sign a RB or draft one in the first two rounds? Boy I really hope Shipp and Arrington gain super powers because we will be the worst running team in the league otherwise in that scenario.

Holy cow. I'm on board with this. Seriously.

Just taking into account 1st round picks (in this case, RB and CB):

QB: Leinart/Warner
RB: Edge/Stewart(R)
WR: Boldin, Curtis, BJ
LT: Gandy
LG: Faneca (FA)
C: Johnson
RG: Lutui
RT: Brown

DE: Dockett
NT: Watson/Branch
DE: Smith/Branch
OLB: Berry
ILB: Hayes
ILB: Dansby
OLB: Okeafor/Pace
CB: Green ...or Jenkins/Talib/etc (R)
CB: Hood
SS: Wilson

Yeah, we're losing a great WR but we still have a great WR, and IMO, a pretty good WR corps.

I wonder if trading Fitz is really an option... I mean, with his current contract as it is, which team would be willing to take that hit?
I would think a trade would only happen if his contract gets restructured - which then begs the questions, just how much of a cut is Fitz willing to take? And if he appears willing to take a cut - why wouldn't he take the cut and remain on the Cards?

Well if trading Fitz would make the Defense so good that we'd only need 10 players I'm all for it.

:D

I'd say that either scenario would be screwing the pooch for Graves. His goal that he has said over and over is "keeping our core" together. Either way, he would've failed at that.

That said, scenario #1 is the only way our team could arguably stay as, or get more, competitive.

Ah, I don't do what-ifs. I'd rather drink. More satisfying.

Maybe Colston and their #1. Curtis isn't enough IMO.

#1 If Fitz has to go for us to be better....see ya Fitz. Maybe whoever we replace him with can stay in bounds for the TD that should have been! Fitz is good but we can't sign him to a deal that will hamper this teams ability to keep building and getting better.
