The much-hyped decision of where top prep recruit Aaliyah Chavez will play college basketball was announced Tuesday on ESPN. The No. 1 recruit in her class is headed to the University of Oklahoma.

"They have great coaches, coaches that I've been talking to since I was in eighth grade and just a great playing style," Chavez said. "They match how I want to play. I want to play fast, and that's why I chose it."

Chavez had an impressive 2024-25 campaign, averaging 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game. The Monterey High School (Lubbock, Texas) standout earned McDonald's All-American hones while winning the Naismith Award and the 2024-25 Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

As expected, Chavez's decision to head to Norman created significant social media buzz.

It can't be said enough about the job Jennie Baranczyk did in recruiting Aaliyah Chavez. Texas was long thought to be the clear choice. And she a lot of big NIL offers, too.

Unbelievable job selling the program and getting Chavez to Norman on Saturday.
