SKYLAND CONFERENCE
Delaware Division
HILLSBOROUGH
Coach: Cheryl Iaione, 29th season
Last season record: 3-18
Top letterwinners lost: Grace Brouillard (C), Claire Marcinek (OF), Lily McDonough (SS).
Roster: Anna Antonelli (So., OF), Alexis Carlisle (Fr., C/1B), Kayla Chess (Sr., 3B), Kathy Cohen (Jr., C/2B), Sophia Franciscus (Fr., P/2B), Kiley Fuller (So., P/OF), Ellery Lambert (Sr., OF/2B), Kallahan Lewis (Jr., CF), Madison Lutzky (So., P/OF), Arden McDonough (So., 1B), Sadie Miliano (So., OF).
Outlook: After two trips to the state finals in three seasons, the Raiders underwent an extremely rare rebuilding campaign a year ago, and after losing three starters to graduation, including a pair of four-year starters in Claire Marcinek and catcher Grace Brouillard, it remains to be seen if Hillsborough can climb back to prominence, especially against a stacked Delaware Division.
Boro does return a two-year starter and three-time letterwinner in Kayla Chess, who is the lone holdover from the team that went to the 2023 Group 4 final, and she’ll be relied upon on and off the field. Sophomore Arden McDonough, who saw regular time as a freshman, should also be a big bat for the Raiders. Sophomores Madison Lutzky and Kiley Fuller each saw regular time in the circle last year and are expected to again, with freshman Sophia Franciscus also in the pitching mix. Senior co-captain Ellery Lambert-Smith joins Chess in handling the leadership.
Coach Cheryl Iaione said the team has improved but still has a way to go. The leadership of Chess and Lambert Smith has been outstanding, Iaione said, and the club has worked hard in the offseason weight training program. They are very focused and have great work ethic, which should go a long way toward shortening the learning curve.

HUNTERDON CENTRAL
Coach: Kelly Rieder, 11th season
Last season record: 15-11, HWST champs
Top letterwinners lost: Kaitlyn Kozak (P).
Roster: Grace Griesler (Sr., 3B/C), Cassie Stallwood (Sr., C/OF), Zoe Totaro (Sr., Inf.), Emily Van Cleef (Sr., P/Inf.), Julia Duggan (Sr., 1B), Maitland Halsted (Sr., OF), Paige Seemon (Sr., OF), Sara Czarnecki (Sr., Inf.), Isabella Icangelo (Jr., OF/Inf.), Lindsay O’Donnell (Jr., OF/Inf.), Jessica Yip (Jr., Inf.), Rylie Cooke (So., P), Cambria Tucker (So., Inf.).
Outlook: The Red Devils are coming off a very interesting season. On one hand, their 15 wins was their lowest total in a decade. On the other hand, they still won the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament championship and went to the state sectional finals with a first-year pitcher in Kaitlyn Kozak serving as the ace, pressed into duty when established pitcher Emily Van Cleef was slowed by injuries that limited her time in the circle.
Now, with Van Cleef seemingly back to full strength, and with Kozak being Central’s lone graduation loss, a special season could be brewing in the greater Flemington area. Van Cleef and fellow senior Zoe Totaro, a first-team All-Area pick last year, serve as captains for a senior-heavy team that brings back 10 regulars. Van Cleef, Totaro, third-team All-Area honoree Cassie Stallwood, Maitland Halsted and sophomore Cambria Tucker project as the top hitters. Van Cleef resumes the ace’s role and should handle the bulk of the pitching, with sophomore newcomer Rylie Cooke also expected to see some innings in the circle.
IMMACULATA
Coach: Gary Bury, seventh season
Last season record: 16-7, SCT champs
Top letterwinners lost: Caitlyn Maychrich (SS), Caroline Colitti (P), Julia Gallo (1B), Marlie Szeier (Inf.), Rebecca Airel (C).
Roster: Maddie Tavaglione (Sr., RF), Heather Ryden (Sr., CF), Mollie Ferreira (Sr., SS/3B), Emma Stefanski (Sr., C/1B), Ava Giglio (Jr., 2B/SS), Caroline Duffey (Jr., 3B/1B), Kaitlyn MacGillivray (Jr., OF), Sophia Alcivar (So., C/OF), Juliette McGrath (So., OF), Vanessa Visnic (Fr., 2B/OF), Aubrey Paczkowski (P/1B), Maddie Falvey (Fr., P/1B), Reagan Kenney (Fr., OF), Zainab Jalloh (Fr., INF).
Outlook: The Spartans are coming off their first Somerset County Tournament championship since 2007, and while they got hit pretty hard by graduation, including the departure of ace Caroline Colitti, who went 16-6 with a 2.04 ERA last season, and slugger Marli Szeier, Immaculata should remain a contender in the county and the Delaware Division. Coach Gary Bury said anything less than a return trip to the county final will be a disappointment.
The Spartans return five starters and add two rookie pitchers in freshman Maddie Falvey, who, Bury said, has tremendous promise, and classmate Aubrey Paczkowski, who will also be in the pitching mix. The Immaculata lineup has plenty of experience, led by second-team All-Area pick Heather Ryden, who should lead off, third-teamer Mollie Ferreira in the No. 3 hole, beginning the season four hits shy of 100, as well as Ava Giglio, Maddie Tavaglione and Caroline Duffey. Flavey is also expected to have an offensive impact.
NORTH HUNTERDON
Coach: Anthony Rotondo, 12th season
Last season record: 19-10
Top letterwinners lost: Kylie Petak (C), Sienna Sorrentino (OF), Stella Panageas (OF).
Roster: Skye Cooke (Sr., P/OF), Camryn Campbell (Sr., P/1B), Katie Reed (Sr., SS), Sammie Dougherty (Sr., 3B/SS), Morgan Heller (Jr., C), Phoebe Lingerfield (Jr., 2B), Layla Francisco (Jr., P/1B), Alex Hsu (So., 2B), Morgan Penna (So., 3B/OF), Sage Canavan (So., OF/2B), Sophia Roman (So., C), Nadia Harris (So., OF/SS), Skylar Burr (So., 1B), Lyla Yoder (So., OF), Jillian Passafaro (Fr., OF), Ellie Russo (Fr., OF).
Outlook: The Lions suffered a big graduation loss in catcher Kylie Petak, but with a bunch of key players back. including the three-armed pitching attack of seniors Skye Cooke and Cam Campbell, and junior Layla Francisco, North should, once again, be among the chief contenders in the Delaware Division, the tri-county tournament, and the state.
First-Team All-Area third baseman Sammie Dougherty returns after establishing herself as one of Central Jersey’s most lethal bats last season, as does four-year starter Katie Reed. They’ll be looked toward to lead on and off the field and serve as the biggest bats in a lineup that will have some inexperience, with as many as 4-5 underclassmen expected to start, but there’s also plenty of upside. Campbell and sophomore returner Alex Hsu are also expected to bring key sticks to the attack. Cooke and Francisco project to get the bulk of the innings in the circle, but Campbell, a left-hander and four-year letterwinner, will also see plenty of time when she’s not playing first base.
WATCHUNG HILLS
Coach: Brian Figueredo, third season
Last season record: 28-3, state Group 4 champion
Top letterwinners lost: Ella Stevinson (1B), Morgan Bobrowski (2B), Tia Shikar (SS), Maddie Cerami (C), Katie Wighard (LF).
Roster: Riley Bobrowski (Jr., P/SS), Mia Simon (Sr., P/DP), Lia Long (Jr., C), Maddie DiSarno (Sr., 1B), Grace Keller (Jr., 2B), Kelly Shikar (So., 3B), Peyton Kalfus (Jr., CF), Arianna Hughes (Sr., RF), Olivia Videla (Fr., P/OF), Leila Romero (Fr., P/SS/OF), Micah Pritzlaff (Fr., C), Sofia Nieroda (Fr., OF), Grace Schroeder (Fr., C), Olivia De Angelis (So., P/OF), Alyse Franklin (So., OF).
Outlook: The reigning state Group 4 champions lost quite a bit of talent to graduation, including four-year starters Ella Stevinson, Morgan Bobrowski and Maddie Cerami, and three-year starter Tia Shikar. But with a core of ace Riley Bobrowski and No. 2 pitcher and big bat Mia Simon returning, as well as proven experienced pieces like seniors Madison DiSarno and Arianna Hughes, Watchung Hills should be chief contender in the conference and county and, perhaps, make a run at repeating as state champ.
The Warriors also return sophomore starter Kelly Shikar, as well as some players stepping into the starting lineup for the first time. They also added some promising newcomers to the mix with 23 freshmen coming out, which should further enhance their chances. The key, coach Brian Figueredo said, is how quickly the newcomers and role players becoming starters adjust to the varsity game.
Bobrowski leads the way after securing the Player of the Year award last season, going 17-1 with a 0.95 ERA. Simon, who posted 11 wins in the circle, with a 1.71 ERA, will also see plenty of high-leverage innings, in addition to providing the team’s biggest bat, hitting .447 with 12 doubles, 12 homers and 43 RBIs last year. DiSarno, Hughes and Shikar will also be counted on in the middle of the order. Juniors Grace Keller, Peyton Kalfus and Lia Long are letterwinners who will be first time starters, with freshmen Leila Romero and Olivia Videla also expected to have an impact, both at the plate and providing pitching depth. Long is expected to take over as the No. 1 catcher after backing up Cerami last year.
Raritan Division
BERNARDS
Coach: Leslie O’Connor, 19th season
Last season record: 18-7
Top letterwinners lost: Silje Emery (CF), Maddie Lardieri (P), Gina Mahlik (SS), Alex Pagonis (1B), Maddy Rivetti (3B), Risa Rivetti (C), Taylor Monica (RF), Julia Karpinski (C/DH).
Roster: Olivia O'Leary (Sr., Inf.), Lauren Bury (Sr., RF), Marley Beers (Sr., LF), Abby Sebastian (Sr., Inf.), Gabby Mongno (Jr., P), Lillan Greco (So., 1B), Mia Bong (So., 2B), Brooke Helpinstill (Jr., SS), Krisztina Lekai (So., CF), Gracie Mongno (So., Inf.), Ashley Holliday (So., P), Cristina De Pierro (So., C).
Outlook: If ever the ‘rebuilding’ label fit a team, it’s the 2025 Mountaineers. Bernards, which is coming off its fourth straight season of 17 or more victories, a Skyland Raritan title, and its third consecutive trip to the North 2 Group 2 final, isn’t going to look much like that team this season. Literally.
The Mountaineers graduated eight seniors and seven starters, including six four-year starters, and the inexperience in a tough Raritan Division is going to be a major challenge. Senior outfielder Marley Beers and infielder junior Brooke Helpenstill, who made major contributions in her first varsity season, do return after regular time last year, as does junior pitcher Gabby Mongo, who proved she can handle varsity innings last season backing up graduated ace Maddie Lardieri.
Veteran coach Leslie O’Conner said there will definitely be a learning curve, but her squad is not shying away from the challenge, and the seniors know what to expect and will be helping the underclassman mentally prepare. Sophomore rookies Krisztina Lekai, Lillian Greco and Mia Bong are expected to have an immediate impact, while sophomore Ashley Holiday is projected to see time in the circle backing up Mongo.
BRIDGEWATER-RARITAN
Coach: Sandy Baranowski, 28th season
Last season record: 9-17
Top letterwinners lost: Melanie Artuso (OF)
Roster: Briana Cacchio (Jr., 3B), Amanda Ciser (Fr., 2B/SS), Madalyn Dolly (Sr., 2B/C), Evelyn Fresco (Sr., CF), Fay Gallou (Sr., 3B/OF), Brynn Hawley (So., P), Madison Lockwood (Jr., 1B), Caileigh Mahovetz (Sr., C), Lia Mobus (So.,1B/RF), Sienna Newsome (Sr., 1B), Jess Pastorick (So., 2B/DH), Jess Paxson (Sr., LF), Angela Tremarco (Sr., SS), Sydney Votapeck (Fr., OF).
Outlook: As coach Sandy Baranowski enters her 28th and final season at the Panthers helm, she returns a team that is absolutely stacked with experienced talent, and the only question — as is often the case at BR — is in the middle of the diamond. If that query gets answered in the affirmative, Bridgewater-Raritan should not only be the favorite in the Raritan Division, but legit contenders in the county and state, as well.
The Panthers bring back all but one starter from last year’s club, a haul that is led by second-team All-Area third baseman and three-year starter Briana Cacchio, as well as four four-year starters in shortstop Angela Tremarco, center fielder and former first-team All-Area honoree Evelyn Fresco, first baseman Sienna Newsome and catcher Cai Mahovetz. Add some players who have had their roles expanded in seniors Jess Paxson and Madalyn Dolly, and sophomore Jess Pastorick, and a high-ceiling freshman in Amanda Ciser, and there’s a lot of excitement surrounding this team’s chances.
But, as is often the case in softball, a lot is riding on the pitching, and sophomore returner Brynn Hawley is expected to get the ball, pretty much, every time out. She was certainly solid as a freshman a year ago — and against a tougher Delaware Division schedule — and if she keeps progressing and can consistently keep her team in games, the sky’s the limit for this squad, Baranowski said.

FRANKLIN
Coach: Ken Kahora, third season
Last season record: 17-9
Top letterwinners lost: Zoe Ling, Sophia Zigler, Mia Elliot, Tiffany Percorella
Roster: Anabella Almenas (So., P/1B), Kiara Bacchus (Sr., C), Faith Cheung (Fr., RF), Victoria Gabryszewski (Jr., CF), Kiera Gallagher (Fr., 2B/P), Casey Gomez-Miranda (Jr., 3B), April Ho (Jr., SS), Morgan Kraus (So., C), Victoria Pydeski (Sr., C), Mia Sanchez-Balzac (Sr., LF), Josslyn Sejeck (Jr., P/1B), Campbell Warcup (Fr., P/1B).
Outlook: After posting their first winning season since 1992 and the program’s first-ever Skyland conference division title in the league’s 35-year history, the Warriors are looking to sustain the success despite some challenges at the outset. Franklin endured some big graduation losses, which included Zoe Ling, who is the best player to come through the program this century, as well as three other starters, plus the Warriors move up to the Raritan Division after winning the Valley last year, making the schedule that much tougher.
But there’s also a nice group of talent returners and some promising newcomers joining the club, so expect Franklin to be in the mix. Junior Casey Gomez-Miranda and pitcher Josslyn Sejeck head the list of returners, each named third-team All-Area last season. Juniors April Ho and Victoria Gabryszewski, and senior Mia Sanchez-Balzac will also be key veteran bats, with Sejeck showing improvement at the plate. The Warriors also get senior catcher Victoria Pydeski back after she sat out last year. She is expected to share catching duties with sophomore rookie Morgan Krause and provide another productive stick. Ho, who did a lot of catching last year out of necessity, will handle shortstop this season.
Sejeck returns as the ace after taking a big leap forward last season and could be poised to see a junior bump in the circle this year. Sophomores Anabella Almenas and Kiera Gallagher, and freshman Campbell Warcup should all see some time in the circle, providing depth and a strong pitching future for the re-emergent program.
PINGRY
Coach: Chip Carver, 14th season
Last season record: 15-11
Top letterwinners lost: Delaney Swain (C), Saniya Tariq (LF).
Roster: Casey McKeon (Sr., P), Claire Sartorius (Sr., 1B), Ellie Solomon (Sr., CF), Paige Travers (Sr., RF), Taylor Francis (Sr., SS), Hyla, Lear (Sr., OF), Ella Royster (Jr., LF), Melia Ahn (So., 2B), Mia Gulati (So., 1B), Lilli Pereira (So., 1B), Genevieve Provence (So., P/3B), Aria Saksena (So., C), Sophie Schachter (So., Inf.), Sofia Phillipou (Fr., RF), Gabby Gomez (Fr., P), Charlotte Hunzinger (Fr., C).
Outlook: While the graduated Delaney Swain will be missed on and off the field, the Big Blue return otherwise intact and should be among the favorites in the Raritan Division. Add three promising freshmen, and perhaps a run to the county final isn’t out of the question.
Senior ace Casey McKeon, who will play at Hofstra, and fellow four-year starter, Georgetown-bound shortstop Taylor Francis, who is also the school’s all-time basketball point scorer, lead the way. They’re joined by a nice group of returning starters in Ella Royster, four-year starter Ellie Solomon, Melia Ahn and Geneveive Provence. Sophomore returner Aria Saksena and freshmen Gabby Gomez and Sofia Phillipou are also expected to be part of the regular lineup. McKeon is back as the ace, with Gomez also expected to see key innings for Pingry. Phillipou and Provence should also see time in the circle.
PHILLIPSBURG
Coach: Kristin Polet, 17th season
Last season record: 9-12
Top letterwinners lost: Paige Randazzo (C), Riley Santos (OF), Adrianna Taynor (OF).
Roster: Shantalina Blake (Jr., SS), Olivia Buthmann-Sinoy (Fr., C), Ava Colontrelle (Sr., 1B), Maddie Fallon (Jr., CF), Ally Fey (Jr., 3B), Alexis Forder (Jr., LF), Samantha Lane (Jr., P), Kayla Melsky (Sr., 3B), Amanda Mrotek (Jr., 2B), Heather Mrotek (Sr., RF), Grace Troxell (Jr., C), Hannah Wodtke (So., P).
Outlook: It’s been seven years since Phillipsburg has had a winning season, but the Liners have been awfully close, finishing just a couple games under .500 in each year since. Now, with most of last season’s team back with another year of varsity under their belts, the hope is enough improvement has been made to make the Stateliners a legit contender in the Raritan Division.
Senior slugger Ava Colontrelle and junior shortstop Shantalina Blake head the list of returners and will anchor the middle of the P’Burg lineup, while junior Alexis Forder and senior Kayla Melsky will also be key to the offense. Sophomore Hannah Wodtke should also have an impact at the plate. Freshman Olivia Buthmann-Sinoy takes over at catcher and coach Kristin Polet expects the rookie to have an immediate impact. Wodtke and junior Sam Lane will handle the pitching after both saw plenty of time in the circle last year, and the hope is the duo can both provide key innings.
Polet said she is looking to her seniors for leadership, as always, but she also expects some of the underclassmen to step up. The coach said there are several younger players on the field who are already in key positions and have the capability of being the positive voices the Stateliners need.
WARREN HILLS
Coach: Renee Smola, third season
Last season record: 13-7
Top letterwinners lost: Chloe Frommelt (OF), Gianna Marinelli (SS), Rylee Rhinehart (3B), Lillie Johnson (U), Quinn Johnson (OF), Bridgain Nunez Sr (U).
Roster: Laney Adie (Sr., P/1B), Erin Boykin (Sr., OF), Sienna Cardell (Sr., 1B/P), Delainey Dakak (So., (OF/SS), Averi Meissner (Jr., (Inf.), April Phelps (Jr., OF), Olivia Piccione (Jr., (Inf.), Jenna Rodriguez (So., OF), Jalecia Stoddart (Jr., C), Carly Suyker (Sr., U), Sofia Trawin (Jr., Inf.), Sienna Kachala (Sr., U), Rihanna Ghilon (Jr., OF), Rilee Ghilon (Jr., OF).
Outlook: The Blue Streaks are coming off back-to-back 13-win seasons, and although they lost some key players to graduation, including Rylee Rhinehart and Gianna Martinelli, there’s plenty back and some promising newcomers coming in as Warren Hills seeks to take a step forward this spring.
Senior ace Laney Adie heads the list of returners and she’ll not only lead the way from the circle after going 12-6 with a 2.77 ERA last season, but also at the plate, after hitting .371 with six homers and 25 RBIs. Co-captain Sienna Cardell, who is also a four-year letterwinner, will serve as the No. 2 pitcher and another key bat in the order. Other returners, including catcher Jelicia Stoddart, who enjoyed a breakout season a year ago, as well as Erin Boykin, Sienna Kachala, Carly Suyker, Rilee Ghilon, Rianna Ghilon, and Sofia Trawin. They will also be counted on to lead the way and set a high standard with their dedication and work ethic, coach Renee Smola said.
Valley Division
BOUND BROOK
Coach: Shannon DeLuca, 18th season
Last season record: 16-5
Top letterwinners lost: Sara Theissen (CF), Brooke Cooper (OF), Avery Scire (3B)
Roster: Katelyn Cunha (Sr., C/2B), Marissa Hays (Sr., 1B), Nicole Rivera (Sr., U), Sam Gullian (Sr, OF), Eunice Zumbado (Sr., OF), Yaneli Ruiz (Sr, OF), Kattya Gonzalez (Sr., 2B/OF), Ava Dedousis (Jr., C/OF), Rachael Gurczeski (Jr., SS), Isabella Marusiak (Jr., P/2B), Katherine Reyes (Jr., P/OF), Jayden Marold (Jr, 1B), Mia Marusiak (Fr., 3B/P), Lili Caprara (Fr, P/U), Camila Mendez-Medrano (Fr., OF), Marelyn Arias Rodriguez (Fr., OF).
Outlook: The Crusaders are coming off their winningest season and first conference title since 2015. Now, with one of the conference’s best young players the past two years in shortstop Rachael Gurczeski a junior, as well as classmate and three-year ace Isabella Marusiak also back providing a talented core, Bound Brook should be a force again, even moving up to the Valley Division after winning the Mountain last year.
The Crusaders also return plenty of other established talent, including catcher Katelynn Cunha, who joins Gurczeski and Isabella Marusiak as the top bats, with a couple of promising newcomers also expected to have an impact in freshman third baseman Mia Marusiak and freshman outfielder Lili Caprara. The rookies join Kathy Reyes giving coach Shannon DeLuca alternate pitching options behind right-hander Isabella Marusiak, who took a giant leap forward last year to emerge as a true varsity ace, going 16-4 with a 1.67 ERA. Cunha and Ava Dedousis figure to handle the catching.
The Crusaders should join Delaware Valley, Gill St. Bernard’s and Ridge as the top contenders in the Valley, and could make some noise in the county and state tournaments.
DELAWARE VALLEY
Coach: Asa Whitaker, 38th season
Last season record: 12-9
Top letterwinners lost: Emma Liskowacki (SS), Riley Campbell (2B), Lauren Bent (OF), Lea Strohmenger (OF/DH).
Roster: Lindsey Ditmar (Sr., RF), Brooklyn Liskowacki (Jr., 2B/3B/C), Melanie Tramo (Jr., SS/OF), Taylor Aycock (Jr., P/OF), Ally Moschberger (Jr., C/3B), Lilly Rynearson (Jr., 1B), Grace Slack (So., P/CF), Annabelle Toye (So., C/OF/2B), Dani Newman (So., SS/OF), Haley Feldman (So., C/OF), Maci Little (Fr., OF/2B/SS), Riley Liskowacki (Fr., SS/OF), Ava Figalora (Fr., 3B/1B/OF), Rylee Hintenach (Fr., OF/SS/3B), Julia DeFrange (Fr., 3B/1B/P), Olivia Wlazlo (Fr., P/OF), Taylor Fox (Fr., P/OF/2B).
Outlook: The Terriers bring back, virtually, their entire lineup, including three-year starting ace Taylor Aycock, as well as Lilly Rynearson, Melanie Tramo, Brooklyn Liskowacki, Ally Moschberger and Grace Slack, among others, and should be in great shape to be one of the primary threats in the Valley Division. Lindsay Ditmar also returns and will be part of the senior leadership. Slack will also see innings in the circle again. Del Val also has a nice group of newcomers coming in, which should improve the lineup that much more. The key will be health, as always, something that hasn’t always cooperated with the Terriers in recent seasons.
GILL ST. BERNARD’S
Coach: Michael Surella, eighth season
Last season record: 9-14
Top letterwinners lost: Brooke Baisley, Julianna Perri.
Roster: Emily Titsworth (Sr., P), Samantha Kalinak (Jr., SS/OF), Brynn McCarthy (Jr., 1B/C/OF), Ella Martinelli (Jr., C/OF), Isabella Mecca (Jr., 3B/SS), Lexi Kolenski (Jr., 3B/2B), Charlotte Brown (So., OF), McKinley Weese (So., P/OF), Julia Ward (Fr., P/OF), Reagan Scalfani (Fr., 2B/OF), Callie Witte (Fr., 1B/OF), Olivia Corrado (Fr., C/OF/1B), Sophia Corrado (Fr., C/OF/1B).
Outlook: The Knights should be poised for a nice step forward, moving down to the Valley Division and returning all but two frontline starters. And while the graduation of four-year starters Brooke Baisley and Julianna Perri are big shoes to fill, Gill St. Bernard’s is stocked with varsity veterans ready to take the next step.
Senior Emily Titsworth, the four-year starting ace, heads the list of returners, and will be joined by a strong junior class in leading the way. Junior catcher Ella Martinell and junior third baseman Bella Mecca are both back, as well, providing the biggest bats. The duo, who were born the same day – August 12 – have been friends since childhood and both played at Voorhees as freshmen before transferring to GSB last season. Junior Samantha Kalinak and sophomore Charlotte Brown should also have a big impact. Junior Brynn McCarthy and sophomore McKinley Weese are also expected to start, and they should also have an impact in the circle behind Titsworth, giving the Knights some nice and experienced pitching depth.
MONTGOMERY
Coach: Bryan Upshaw, ninth season
Last season record: 2-19
Top letterwinners lost: Lauren Tortolani
Roster: Connor Fogarty (Sr., OF/Inf.), Nicolette Shackelford (Jr., Inf.), Maggie McGlynn (So., Inf.), Charlotte Spina (Jr., Inf.), Ryane Riddell (Jr., Inf., P), Isabella Malek (Fr., OF), Allison McKnight (Fr., C), Stella Cunha (So., Inf.).
Outlook: There’s really nowhere to go but up for the Cougars, who won just twice last season, but a dramatic turnaround will be a challenge with just one starting senior and no established ace. Coach Bryan Upshaw said his team is focused on the little things, like situational hitting, but with junior Nicolette Shackelford and senior Connor Fogarty handling the leadership, there is a veteran presence to help ease the path forward. Fogarty and junior Ryane Riddell are expected to handle the pitching and one could emerge as the ace. The pair, along with Shackelford, are also expected to be the top bats.
MOUNT ST. MARY
Coach: Brittany Maldonado, third season
Last season record: 7-11
Top letterwinners lost: Cat Deciantis (C/U), Vanessa Kosuda (CF/1B).
Roster: Julianna King (Sr., OF), Gianna Sangillo (Sr., C), Evangeline Stewart-Dale (Sr., OF), Anna Ziccardi (Sr., P/U), Sarah Algier (Jr., 2B), Isabella DeLuca (Jr., 3B), Kylie Forte (Jr., LF), Isabella Law (Jr., OF), Maria Pasqua (Jr., OF), Madilyn Zatorski (Jr., CF), Madeline Dec (So., 2B/SS), Lilah Meshki (So., 1B), Claire Thackery (So., OF), Madelyn Bono (Fr., OF), Sophia Crum (Fr., SS), Victorina Germak (Fr., 2B), Casey Lynch (Fr., C), Emma Moschetto (Fr., P), Kelly Naughton (Fr., 1B/OF), Gabriella Sangillo (Fr., U), Hailey Scotillo (Fr., OF).
Outlook: The Mount Lions are coming off their first losing season since 2018 after playing in the Valley Division. Now that they’ve moved back down to the Mountain Division, and with the return of some key players, including a four-year starting ace, Mount St. Mary should certainly be in the mix in the division and in good position to improve its postseason fortunes.
“We are aiming to continue our program on an upward trend, and hope it translates into creating a program with depth,” coach Brittany Maldanado said.
Senior ace Anna Ziccardi heads the list of returners, not only providing a big arm in the circle as she eyes the program’s all-time strikeout record, but she’s also the Mount’s biggest bat, after hitting .420 with six doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBIs last season. She’s joined by juniors Kylie Forte and Isabella DeLuca as the key returning bats, with newcomers Sophia Crum and Gabriella Sangillo also expected to have an offensive impact.
RIDGE
Coach: Brian McCarthy, fifth season
Last season record: 11-12
Top letterwinners lost: Elie Lardiere, Julia La Rose, Sam Rafanello, Robyn Lusardi, Juliet Larsen.
Roster: Kiersten Murray (Sr., C), Kari Murray (Sr., P/1B), Jackie Adler (Sr., P/3B), Jackie Grant (Sr., SS), Mia Moschello (Sr., OF), Sydney Perla (So., OF), Maddy Sauro (So., OF), Gabby Price (So., OF), Hailey Cuyun (Fr., OF/3B), Kelly Ross (Fr., 1B/3B), Mia Hice (Fr., OF), Sydney Richel (Fr., 2B).
Outlook: The Red Devils lost quite a few key players to graduation, led by a core 4 of Julia LaRose, Juliet Larsen, Robyn Lusardi and Sam Rafanello, as well as star Elie Lardiere, who missed all of last season with an injury. But what Ridge does get back is a four-year starting battery of pitcher Kari Murray and catcher and first-team All-Area pick Kiersten Murray, as well as classmate Jackie Adler, who will also see time in the circle and join the twins in providing a key bat. The Red Devils should also get a huge benefit moving down to the Valley Division and should contend for the title.
“It is always difficult to lose seniors, but when you lose the group of senior leaders like we did, it makes it that much harder,” coach Brian McCarthy said. “But I feel we have the right mix of senior returners and a young core to make a good run for the division and make a run in the county tournament. I am excited to see what this group can do once they gel and trust each other.”

Mountain Division
BELVIDERE
Coach: Amy Krushinski, seventh season
Last season record: 3-19
Top letterwinners lost: Mia Lawson (P/1B), Gianna Nese (P/OF).
Roster: Michaela Krouse (Sr.), Molly Camporini (Sr.), Leilany Natal-Ramos (Jr.), Isamar Natal (Sr.), Maya Torres (Sr.), Samantha Hickey (Sr.), Madyson Denker (Sr.), Katelynn Deleon (Jr.), Annalina Jonkoski (Sr.), Gianna Whitbeck (Jr.), Kalie Italiano (Jr.), Kaylee Salisbury (Sr.), Kelly McLain (Sr.), Nivek Noriega (Sr.), Grace Duckworth (Fr.), Lillian Duckworth (Fr.), Bheena Kumar (Fr.), Camila Quinteros (Jr.), Gianna Schwinof (Jr.).
Outlook: It’s a rebuilding year at Belvidere, which lost two of the program’s all-time greats to graduation in co-aces Mia Lawson and Gianna Nese, who were also the County Seaters’ top two bats. Seniors Samantha Hickey, Madyson Denker and Mikayla Krouse will be counted on to lead on and off the field for Belvidere, which gets a break moving down the Mountain Division.
MANVILLE
Coach: Bill Sperduto, first season
Last season record: 5-13
Top letterwinners lost: Valentina Barrios (C/SS), Vanessa Thompson (OF), Alison Rindgen (1B).
Roster: Sasha Cichon (1B/P), Haley Lopez (LF), Sophia Gosk (3B), Isabella Gallegos (SS), Maddison Byra (1B/P), Angie Paiz (2B), Ryleigh Benson (C), Ashleigh Sisco (CF), Casey Herrarte (RF), Zairabella Perry (P).
Outlook: Bill Sperduto takes over as head coach, replacing Christen Albani, who departs after one season at the helm, and the new skipper said the focus will be on bringing the program back to prominence, through community involvement, player development, and interest in softball. It’s quite the task, considering the team has had just one winning season since 2006.
Sperduto, who has coached youth softball, basketball and track, and has spent the past 10 years teaching and coaching in Manville, mostly in the middle school, returns a team with some key graduation losses, including four-year starter and two-sport standout Valentina Barrios, who is arguably the top player to come through the softball program over the past couple decades. Sopia Gosk and Angie Paiz are expected to handle the leadership and provide two of the biggest bats. Sasha Cichon, Haley Lopez, Isabella Gallegos and Maddison Byra are also expected to be key. Zairabella Perry is expected to handle the bulk of the pitching, with Cichon and Byra will also see some time in the circle.
RUTGERS PREP
Coach: Carli Perruso, first season
Last season record: 6-11
Roster: Gianna Bowman (Jr., C/3B), Jurnee Caldwell (Jr., OF), Kaitlyn Dougherty (Jr., P/2B), Kayla Hill (Jr., OF), Anvi Jangamareddy (Fr., OF), Cali McCoy (Jr., SS), Zara Nagabhushana (Fr., OF/2B), Julia OpongMarfo (Sr., OF), Meha Patel (Fr., OF/2B), Anya Pathak (Sr., 1B), Kira Roy (Fr., OF), Victoria Scheflen (Jr., OF), Zara Shakoor (Fr., OF/2B), Ariel Smith (Fr., C/3B), Sophia Soares (Fr., INF/C).
Outlook: Carli Perruso, a member of Hillsborough’s 2019 Somerset County Tournament championship team and of the 2020 senior class that lost its final campaign to the COVID-19 pandemic, takes over as head coach after playing four years at Post University. She replaces Matt Moore, who departed after one season. Perruso inherits a team that made some nice strides last year as it looks to reestablish itself, and with everyone back, things are certainly set up for a step forward. Junior three-year starter Kait Dougherty is back as the ace and one of the Argonauts biggest bats, along with Julia Opong-Marfo, Anya Pathak, cleanup hitter Cali McCoy and Gianna Bowman. If things continue to progress, Rutgers Prep could emerge as a contender in the Valley Division.
SOMERVILLE
Coach: Karissa Astrella, fourth season
Last season record: 14-9
Top letterwinners lost: Nicole Fitzgibbon (P), Kari LaCanna (1B), Mina Batra (3B).
Roster: Riley DeSarno (Sr., SS), Kelsey Butler (Sr., CF), Gia Zeban (Sr., UT), Anna DeCola (Jr., C), Thea Pappas (Jr., U), Sarah Graber (Jr., P), Ella Schueler (Jr., UT), Sam Ney (Jr., U), Giuliana Oborne (So., LF), Ava Andusko (Fr., U), Emily Smith (Fr., 1B), Lyla Repole (Fr., P).
Outlook: The Pioneers got hit hard by graduation, losing their three top players, including ace Nicole Fitzgibbons, and it remains to be seen how things come together for Somerville, which is coming off its first winning season since 2019. The goal, coach Karissa Astrella said, is to take it pitch by pitch and leave everything out on the field.
Senior shortstop and four-year starter Riley DeSarno heads to the list of returners and is likely to lead off, while fellow returners Anna DeCola, Thea Pappas, Kelsey Butler and Giuliana Oborne expected to join her as the key bats. Sara Graber, who served as the Ville’s No. 2 pitcher last year, is expected to see the bulk of the innings in the circle.
SOUTH HUNTERDON
Coach: Jim Smiegocki, fifth season
Last season record: 14-9
Top letterwinners lost: Danella Silagy (SS), Kaitlyn Srivastava (P), Cambria Loesch (C), Cara Bednar (1B), Georgia Andreoli (CF).
Roster: Anika Balog (Jr., SS), Lina Weiland (Sr., 2B), Elsie Scheetz (So., P/OF), Erin O'Rouke (So., C), Reagan Morris (So., OF), Carin Gallagher (So., 1B/3B), Jlynda Barrientos (Sr., 3B/C), Brynna Loesch (Jr., OF), Maddie Leary (So., 2B), Aidan Steffanelli (So., OF/P), Yeselin Recinos (Jr., Inf.), A'ziya Jackson (Sr., OF), Payton Polukord (So., C/3B), Hailey Brown (Fr., 3B), McKenna Bartzak (Jr., OF).
Outlook: The Eagles might have graduated four frontline starters, including first-team All-Area outfielder Georgia Andreoli, but the foundation to keep South Hunterdon at or near the top of the Mountain Division is certainly in place. The program is in good shape, with 24 committed players and a full JV, and the Eagles certainly have made the most of the depth.
Back is sophomore Elise Sheetz, who was, arguably, the conference’s top freshman last year, providing an ace’s arm in the circle and a big bat at the plate. Junior Anika Balog had a big sophomore campaign and will be a key bat again, while returners Lina Weiland and Jlynda Barrientos are joined by power-hitting sophomore rookie catcher Erin O’Rourke in leading the attack. Sophomore Aidan Steffanelli should also see some innings in the circle.
VOORHEES
Coach: Matt Traynor, second season
Last season record: 8-16
Top letterwinners lost: Avalyn Stayskal (3B), Sydney Heffernan (1B).
Roster: Christina Sullivan (Sr., CF), Susan Hockenbury (Sr., LF), Ava Maksimowich (Sr., 2B), Ella Lagomarsino (Jr., C), Sophie Guzzino (Jr., 1B), Charlotte Mosier (So., 3B), Ava Zielinskie (So., P/OF), Chloe Vaddis (So., OF), Mia Bergmann (So., Inf.), Keira MacMillan (So., U).
Outlook: The Vikings took their share of graduation hits, but with eight returning players and some strong underclassmen who are finding roles, coach Matt Traynor said, Voorhees is focused on a big year. And after moving down to the Mountain Division and with defending champ Bound Brook moving out, the Vikes immediately join South Hunterdon as the contenders for the title.
Voorhees will be a strong senior group of Ali Leibensperger, Susan Hockenbury, Christina Sullivan and Ava Maksimowich, while Ava Zielinskie, who emerged as the team’s ace last year as a freshman, is also back and she will also be one of the key bats. Sophomore Ella Lagomarsino also returns after a solid rookie campaign. Traynor said the Vikings haven’t had a winning season in six years and he expects this team to change that.
UNION COUNTY CONFERENCE
GOVERNOR LIVINGSTON
Coach: Erin Lanigan, seventh season
Last season record: 20-8
Top letterwinners lost: Gianna Basile (1B/OF), Emma McElroy (CF)
Roster: Hannah Belluche (So., C/OF), Abbey Devanney (Jr., 2B), Paige Drennan (So., OF/1B), Addy Figlar (Jr., P/1B), Ally Gardner (Fr., CF), Chelsea Kiesewetter (Sr., SS), Alyssa Monaco (Jr., P), Carly Pfeiffer (So., OF/2B), Vanessa Popola (Jr., C), Maggie Quinn (Fr., P), Julie Rinaldi (Sr., OF), Lily Sandholm (Jr., 3B),
Outlook: The reigning Union County Conference Watchung Division champion Highlanders shook off heavy graduation losses last year and came storming out of the gate, winning nine of the first 11 games, and hitting the 20-win mark for the first time since 2017. But Governor Livingston’s postseason did not go well, as the Highlanders were upset in the Union County Tournament quarterfinals and ousted in the semifinals of the state sectional tournament, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth of what is now a very experienced team. GL returns 10 letterwinners and seven starters, although first-team All-Area outfielder Emma McElroy did graduate, and, coach Erin Lanigan said, the club is looking for redemption and feel like they have a little bit more to prove after last year’s early exits.
Junior Alyssa Monaco returns as the ace after being named third-team All-Area last year, while classmate Addy Figlar is back as the No. 2 arm. Freshman left-hander Maggie Quinn has impressed in the preseason and should also see innings in the circle. Senior shortstop and four-year starter Chelsea Kiesewetter, who was second-team All-Area last year, leads the offense, along with Lily Sandholm. Abbey Devanney moves up to the top of the order, with Hannah Belluche, Carly Pfeiffer, Vanessa Popola, Paige Drennan and speedy freshman Ally Gardner also expected to have an impact, offensively.
SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD
Coach: Matt Giannacio, third season
Last season record: 18-9
Top letterwinners lost: Sairah Llano (P/1B/3B), Julia Friedrichs (2B), Julia Tiedemann (CF).
Roster: Maddie Bogart (So., P/Inf.), Natalie DiFabrizio (So., OF/C/Inf.), Olivia DiSalvo (Sr., P/1B), Lara Fox (So., OF), Sam Friscia (Sr., C/Inf./OF), Avery Klotz (So., 1B/3B), Sarina Llano (So., C/1B/3B), Sam Marcolina (So., OF), Virginia Nanton (Sr., OF), Emily Roof (Jr., P/SS), Harper Shimko (So., OF/Inf./P), Katie ***** (Jr., Inf./OF), Angelina Valente (Sr., OF).
Outlook: The Raiders are coming off their first Union County Tournament final since 2001, losing to Dayton on a seventh-inning walkoff homer, and reached the 18-win mark for the first time since that season. Having lost only two starters to graduation — although one was four-year starter Sairah Llano — and with every player on this year’s club having at least one season of varsity experience, there’s every reason to expect even bigger things in 2025.
Senior ace Olivia DiSalvo, sophomore third baseman/pitcher Maddie Bogart, who was named Freshman of the Year last season, and junior pitcher/infielder Emily Roof give SPF three highly capable varsity arms and three potent bats, with senior outfielder Angelina Valente also a huge part of the attack. Senior catcher Sam Friscia is also back, as are sophomores Harper Shimko, Natalie DiFabrizio and Sarina Llano, all of which contributed regularly last season.
UNION CATHOLIC
Coach: AJ Bonadies, third season
Last season record: 11-13
Top letterwinners lost: Cameron Kelly (P/Inf.), Jules Hart (Inf./OF), Sarah Potts (C), Aniya Fleming (OF).
Roster: Hannah Buniak (Jr., INF), Emma Kaminski (Jr., UTL), Isabella Martins (Jr., OF), Lilah Reidy (Sr., P/INF), Kat Price (Sr., OF), Jenna Risley (Jr., OF), Sienna Parker (So., INF/OF), Kelsey Edmondson (So., OF), Mia Vitagliano (So., P/OF), Isabella Donnelly (So., INF), Caleigh Banaria (Jr., INF), Kajsa Svennison (Fr., UTL), Belina Pardo (Fr., C), Kaylie Rivera (Fr., OF), Gabby DeJesus (Fr., INF/OF), Angelina Ciesla (Fr., OF), Layla Araneo (Fr., P), Janelle Cardozo (So., OF).
Outlook: The Vikings return a young team after some key graduation losses, a haul that included veteran standouts Cam Kelly and Jules Hart, and second-year coach A.J. Bonadies said, the squad is looking to grow as a team and establish a nice foundation and bond. Senior Lilah Reidy returns in the circle and will see the majority of the innings, although underclassmen Mia Vitagliano, Kelsey Edmondson, Emma Kaminski and Layla Araneo could also see some time there. Junior Hannah Buniak and sophomore Bella Donnelly are joined by freshman Belina Pardo in being looked toward as the big bats.
WESTFIELD
Coach: Caitlin Cheddar, 16th season
Last season record: 14-11
Top letterwinners lost: Cat Heflin (1B), Erin Doherty (3B), Bella Scipioni (P), Gianna Puglisi (C/OF), Annie Reilly (C).
Roster: Keira Deignan (Sr., 1B), Macy Curran (Sr., OF), Quinlan Doherty (Sr., CF), Alex Laguna (Sr., SS/3B), Kayla Reyes (Jr., LF), Natalie Ardente (Jr., 2B/3B), Naomi Kamins (Jr., RF), Stella Pugliese (Jr., P), Sophia Mattielli (Jr., 1B/OF), Emily Tessitore (Jr., U), Leah Abrams (Jr., OF/DH), Claire Kurtz (So., C/DH), Darby Revock (Fr., SS/2B), Grace Brodo (Fr., C), Giada Petrarca (Fr., OF), Ava Heuck (Fr., P).
Outlook: The Bue Devils are kind of a wildcard after heavy graduation losses, including third-team All-Area pitcher Bella Scipioni, as well as four-year starter Cat Heflin and three-year starter Erin Doherty. But Westfield is always a contender, and with good senior leadership from four-year starter Alex Laguna and three-year starter Quinlan Doherty, as well as classmates Macy Curran and Keira Deignan, the hope is the newcomers can learn the ropes quickly.
The Blue Devils will have four freshmen and five newcomers in the mix, including one in the circle, and coach Caitlin Cheddar said she will rely on the returners to provide confidence and poise and the newcomers to provide fresh energy and enthusiasm. Laguna, Doherty, Kayla Reyes and Natalie Ardente will anchor the lineup, with some mix of freshmen Sophia Mattielli, Darby Revock and Giada Petrarca setting the table. Freshman Ava Heuck is expected to enter the season as the ace, while junior Stella Pugliese could also see a few innings.
